Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which country were Blondie first successful in the charts, before any other countries?

Answer: Australia

Blondie's first ever hit, "In The Flesh", reached number two on the Australian Singles charts after it was played by mistake (instead of "X-Offender") on the music show "Countdown" in 1977.
2. What song was Blondie's first major hit in Europe, peaking at number one on the singles chart in The Netherlands and number two on the UK singles chart?

Answer: Denis

The song was a cover of the 1963 hit "Denise" by Randy and the Rainbows. The song was from their 1978 album "Plastic Letters", which helped establish their success throughout many parts of Europe.
3. "I'm Gonna Love You Too" was a hit on the singles chart in only one country, peaking at number six. What was this country?

Answer: The Netherlands

The song was from the "Parallel Lines" album, and was originally recorded by Buddy Holly in 1957. It became their highest charting single from that album in The Netherlands, but was not released in any other country.
4. What was Blondie's first number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, released in 1979?

Answer: Heart Of Glass

"Heart Of Glass" reached number one in the UK, the USA, Australia, West Germany, and many other countries. An earlier slower version called "Once I Had A Love" had been written a few years before. From the "Parallel Lines" album, the recording was not without its controversy.

The BBC edited out the expression "pain in the ass" from the radio edit and changed it to simply "heart of glass".
5. Although "One Way Or Another" is generally considered one of Blondie's most classic tracks, it was not a major chart success. Which of these countries was the only country where it reached the top ten on the singles chart?

Answer: Canada

The song reached number seven on the Canadian RPM singles charts. The only other country in which the song charted was the USA, where it peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song did however later to become one of Blondie's most well known songs, and is one of only two Blondie songs (together with "Heart of Glass") to be featured on Rolling Stone's "Top 500 songs of all time" list.
6. "Hanging On The Telephone" was another classic Blondie track. In which of these countries was it particularly successful on the singles chart, reaching number five?

Answer: UK

The song was originally written by Jack Lee and performed by his band "The Nerves". However, the song was made popular when it was released in 1978 from the "Parallel Lines" album by Blondie. At only two minutes and seventeen seconds, the song was relatively short for a hit single.
7. This song scored Blondie their only number one hit on the Irish Singles Chart, and has a version recorded entirely in French. What is the name of the song?

Answer: Sunday Girl

"Sunday Girl" was the second most successful single from the "Parallel Lines" album in Europe, after "Heart Of Glass". The French language version of the track was included as a B-side of the single in France and The Netherlands.
8. What was Blondie's biggest selling studio album of their career?

Answer: Parallel Lines

The album, released by Epic, has sold 20 million copies since its release in 1978. The album reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and number six on the US Billboard 200 Chart. Several of their most well known tracks came from this Album, including "Heart Of Glass", "Sunday Girl", "Hanging On The Telephone" and "One Way Or Another".
9. Of the four singles released in different parts of the world from the "Eat To The Beat" album, which of them was the only one to reach number one on the Singles Chart in the UK?

"Atomic" reached number one on the UK singles chart in 1980. "Dreaming", the first single from the album, reached number two, while "Union City Blue" reached number 13. "The Hardest Part" was not released in the UK.
10. "Union City Blue" is widely acknowledged among Blondie fans to be another classic track. Did it reach the top ten on the singles charts in any country?

Answer: No

Although widely recognised as a classic among fans, the song failed to match the success of many of their other major worldwide hits. The song's highest placing was number 13 on the Singles Chart in the UK.
11. Of Blondie's four number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100, which stayed at number one for the longest?

12. "Autoamerican" became another one of Blondie's top selling albums. How many singles were released from it?

Answer: two

Although both reached number one on the US Billboard 100, the only singles to be released from this album were "The Tide Is High" and "Rapture". "The Tide Is High" was a cover version of a song written in 1967 by Jamaican band The Paragons, while "Rapture" became the very first ever Rap hit in 1981.
13. "The Hunter", released in May 1982, was largely a commercial failure. However, which of these songs from the album was still a sizable hit in some countries (peaking at number 11 on the singles chart in the UK)?
