Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What character from Bob Dylan's "Black Diamond Bay" killed himself right before "the volcano erupted" causing the death of the rest of the island's inhabitants?

Answer: The Greek

At the shocking end of the story, we learn that the only things left on the island were a panama hat and a pair of old Greek shoes. After many verses becoming familiar with the characters on Black Diamond Bay and learning of their fateful demise, we hear about the narrator in the last verse, who is watching the news on TV and says "it didn't look like much was happening, so I turned it off and went to grab another beer. Seems like every time you turn around there's another hard-luck story that you're gonna hear. And there's really nothing anyone can say. And I never did plan to go anyway to Black Diamond Bay."
2. What Beatles character was "so good looking" even though "she looked like a man"?

Answer: Polythene Pam

This is part of the Sun King medley on the second half of Abbey Road:

"Well you should see Polythene Pam
She's so good looking
But she looks like a man
Well, you should see her in drag
dressed in a polythene bag
Yes you should see Polythene Pam
Yeh, yeh, yeh"
3. What Talking Heads character can't sleep because his "bed's on fire"?

Answer: Psycho Killer

From their first ablum:

"I can't seem to face up to the facts
I'm tense and nervous and I can't relax
I can't sleep 'cause my bed's on fire
Don't touch me I'm a real live wire"
4. The bartender in Billy Joel's "Piano Man" believes he could be an actor if he just had a chance. What is his name?

Answer: John

If you haven't played this on the jukebox at an old tavern while drunk out of your mind, you haven't yet lived. The lyrics for this part are:

"Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be
He says, 'Bill, I believe this is killing me.'
As the smile ran away from his face
'Well I'm sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place'"
5. The narrator of this Rolling Stones song says "you're beautiful, but ain't it time we said good-bye?" What is the name of the title character?

Answer: Angie

The song "Angie" (which I can't stand, by the way!) includes the lyrics:

"Angie, I still love you, remember all those nights we cried?
All the dreams we held so close seemed to all go up in smoke
Let me whisper in your ear:
Angie, angie, where will it lead us from here?"
6. According to the Doobie Brothers, this religious figure is "just alright". What is the religious figure's name?

Answer: Jesus

The well-known lyrics from the classic "Jesus is Just Alright" include:

"I don't care what they may say
I don't care what they may do
I don't care what they may say
Jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus is just alright"
7. What character from the Who's "Tommy" sexually molests the young title character?

Answer: Uncle Ernie

The song is "Fiddle About", sung by the character Uncle Ernie. It includes the lyrics:

"Im your wicked uncle ernie
Im glad you wont see or hear me
As I fiddle about
Fiddle about
Fiddle about !

Your mother left me here to mind you
Now Im doing what I want to
Fiddling about
Fiddling about
Fiddling aobut"

Keith Moon played Uncle Ernie in the movie version and attempted to make a somewhat gruesome scene seem somewhat comical.
8. Who arrests Arlo Guthrie in "Alice's Restaurant Masacree"?

Answer: Officer Obie

From one of the funniest moments of the song:

"[Officer Obie] said, "Kid, we found your name on an envelope at the bottom of a half a ton of garbage, and just wanted to know if you had any information about it." And I said, "Yes, sir, Officer Obie, I cannot tell a lie. I PUT that envelope under that garbage."
9. Who does Blue Oyster Cult tell us not to fear?

Answer: The Reaper

Creepy lyrics from the song "Don't Fear the Reaper":

"Come on baby... And we had no fear
And we ran to him... Then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodbye
She had become like they are
She had taken his hand
She had become like they are

Come on baby...don't fear the reaper"
10. In the AC/DC song, this woman is described as "Forty-two thirty-nine fifty-six". Quite a woman! What is her name?

Answer: Rosie

This is from the song, "A Whole Lotta Rosie".
