Which Song Is It Trivia Questions

1. 21) Artist: Eagles Lyrics: "City girls just seem to find out early/ how to open doors with just a smile/ a rich old man, and she won't have to worry/ she'll dress up all in lace, and go in style". Which song is it?

From Quiz
Faves From Faves 2(top artists 21-40/top tunes)

Answer: Lyin Eyes

"Lyin Eyes" was released in the U.S in 1975 on the "One of These Nights" album. It was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey. The theme for the song came as Frey and Henley were eating at a restaurant. They saw a beautiful woman with a fat wealthy man. Knowing that she was "gold digging", Frey said, "Look, she can't even hide her Lyin Eyes". Thus, the song was born.

2. What song does this lyric come from? "Into the distance a ribbon of black. Stretched to the point of no turning back."

From Quiz Guess the Song

Answer: "Learning to Fly"

"Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd off their "Momentary Lapse of Reason" album and released in 1987. The video opened with a young teenager in a field with a plane coming down but flying just above him.

3. "Many a heart is aching If you could read them all Many the hopes that have vanished ... ... ..." Can you supply those three missing words?

From Quiz Songs Over Time

Answer: After the Ball

A definite golden oldie, this song was written by the American Charles Harris in 1891. It relates the story of an old man telling his niece why he never married his sweetheart. It turned out he saw her kissing another man at the ball, but then refused to listen to her explanation, and dissolved their relationship. Sadly she dies (absolutely yummy musical hall stuff) and he finds out after her death that the other man was her brother. It's been performed over and over since then, as a single, by individual entertainers. Oh, and how they wrung the pathos out on stage when singing this lovely old number. The song originally appeared in the stage musical "A Trip to Chinatown" in 1891. This was then made into a silent movie that appeared years later, which is really hilarious when you think of it. It then re-emerged in the stage musical "Show Boat" in 1927, and again in two film versions of the same name - one made in 1936, and the one most of us would be familiar with, the 1957 musical with Kathryn Grayson. It also cropped up in two additional movies. These were the 1936 film "San Francisco" and the 1940 musical "Lillian Russell". I'd love to see that one if it ever pops up on late night television.

4. Can you identify the following lyrics? "She would never say where she came from Yesterday don't matter if it's gone While the sun is bright Or in the darkest night"

From Quiz Moving, Grooving, Music Lyrics Mixture

Answer: Ruby Tuesday

"Ruby Tuesday" was originally recorded by the Rolling Stones in 1966 and appeared on the album, "Between the Buttons". Since then many other artists have covered it: to name a few, Rod Stewart, Marianne Faithful and Crosby Stills and Nash.

5. From which song did the following lyrics come? "Easy come, easy go That's just how you live, oh Take, take, take it all But you never give"

From Quiz Music Meltdown

Answer: Grenade

"Grenade", was performed by Bruno Mars. It has peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's critical response has been good. It is also compared to Micheal Jackson's "Dirty Diana". "Grenade" is a song performed by American singer-songwriter and producer Bruno Mars from his debut studio album "Doo-Wops & Hooligans".

Yeah, Kiki. I know how you feel. I've got the music in me, too, but unfortunately, not your voice and talent. British singer-songwriter Kiki Dee was born Pauline Matthews in 1947. She had another hit, a duet with Elton John in 1976, "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart." Strangely, on the flip side of my 45 of "I've Got the Music in Me" is another band, First Class, singing "Beach Baby," one of those irritatingly memorable (or memorably irritating) "get out of my head!" tunes. A "Who sang 'Beach Baby'?" trivia question might work really well if you're looking to stump somebody.

11. Song #120/220: What song includes the following lyrics: " 'Cause how you gonna make some time when all you've got is one thin dime? And one thin dime won't even shine your shoes..."?

From Quiz Welcome To My Jukebox (#3)

Answer: On Broadway

The version on my juke box is George Benson's from 1978, although The Drifters did it first (1963) and arguably better. Benson's "Boardwalk" spent eight weeks on the U.S. Billboard Pop chart, hitting number nine. "Lady Blue" is on the flip side. Benson was hotter than hot from 1976-1981, then just seemed to disappear. Or so I thought. A look at his website shows he's released an album a year for several years.

12. Where have these lyrics come from: "Think it's time we stop, children What's that sound Everybody look what's going down"?

From Quiz Rock Lyrics Through The Years #4

Answer: Buffalo Springfield - "For What It's Worth"

This 1967 folk rock gem was written by Stephen Stills and recorded by Buffalo Springfield, the group that also introduced Neil Young to the world. The song title does not appear anywhere in the lyrics. According to Stills, he brought the untitled demo to the record label and said "I have a song here, for what it's worth, if you want it," and that somehow ended up as the name.

13. Simon and Garfunkel had a hit song in 1968 that began with lyrics "Slow down you move too fast, you've got make the morning last." It is commonly referred to as "Feeling Groovy" but what is the actual title of this song?

From Quiz What's in a Name (Part 3)

Answer: 59th Street Bridge Song

The song is from Simon and Garfunkel's 1965 album "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme." Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were raised in the New York suburb of Queens and met in high school. The 59th Street Bridge is what locals in Queens call the Queensboro Bridge because it empties onto 59th Street in Manhattan.

14. Songs 110/210 on my jukebox: What '60s smash hit included the following lyric? "If good looks can cause a minute, you know that you could be an hour..."

From Quiz Welcome To My Jukebox (#2)

Answer: The Way You Do the Things You Do

This great song is on the flip or "B" side of a generally accepted greater song, "My Girl," by The Temptations. Whitburn's "Billboard's Book of [U.S.] Top 40 Hits" says "The Way You Do the Things You Do" was The Temps' first Top 40 (Pop) hit, nine weeks before "My Girl," which reached number one on the Pop chart. Gordy label, natch.

15. Songs 100/200 on my Jukebox: From which classic tune (1968) would you find the following lyrics: "Between the two of us guys, you know I love you more"? and "It took me by surprise, I must say, when I found out yesterday..."?

From Quiz Welcome to My Jukebox (#1)

Answer: I Heard It Through the Grapevine

My version of "Grapevine" is from 1968, Marvin Gaye all the way, although I appreciate Gladys Knight and the Pips' version from '67. ("Grapevine" was also covered by King Curtis in '68 and CCR in '76.) This was Marvin Gaye's biggest hit, spending 15 weeks at number one on the US Billboard Pop Singles chart. Tough question: What's on the flip side? Give that some thought and I'll tell you at the end of the quiz.

16. Guns N' Roses: "Was a time when I wasn't sure but you set my mind at ease. There is no doubt you're in my heart now. Said woman take it slow, it'll work itself out fine. All we need is just a little ___________." What is the title of the song?

From Quiz Fill in the Title

Answer: Patience

"Patience" comes from the 1988 album "G N'R Lies". The most popular opinion on the origins of the song is that it is about the tense relationship between Axl Rose and his then-wife Erin Everly. It has been said by the band, though, that it is about Izzy Stradlin's ex-girlfriend Angela Nicoletti McCoy. Since the music and lyrics were primarily written by Izzy, the second explanation seems plausible. The music video for "Patience" is the last GNR video that Steven Adler appeared in. In 1990, Matt Sorum took over the drummer position in the band.

17. Which song do these lyrics belong to? "Mama, put my guns in the ground. I can't shoot them anymore. That cold black cloud is coming down. Feels like I'm..."

From Quiz Just a Random Lyrics Quiz II

Answer: "Knocking on Heaven's Door" by Guns N Roses

"Knocking on Heaven's Door" was written by Bob Dylan and originally released by him in 1973. The Guns N Roses version is one of the most well-known covers. The song appeared on GnR's 1991 album "Use Your Illusion II". For some reason, the Guns N Roses version is slightly different, lyrically; the original Dylan lyrics are "That long black cloud is coming down. I feel like I'm knocking on Heaven's door."
