Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Had UK hits in 1979 with "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" and "It's Different For Girls".

Answer: Joe Jackson

When Jackson burst on to the New Wave scene in 1979, he was mentioned in the same breath as Elvis Costello, but after initial chart success he seemed to fade away while Costello's reputation grew. Rather than chase chart success though, Jackson branched out into making the music he loved and that had influenced him as a young musician.

He has released swing albums, such as "Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive" in 1981, jazz albums such as "Body and Soul" in 1984 and in 1997 was signed by Sony Classical records for whom he has made classical music albums.
2. Vocalist for My Morning Jacket. Released his debut solo album, "Regions of Light and Sound of God" in 2013.

Answer: Jim James

James is an in demand and much respected musician in his field, as well as being highly successful. With My Morning Jacket, he has achieved a US Billboard 200 top five album when "Circuital" reached that position in 2011, and with folk rock band Monsters Of Folk, he managed a US Billboard 200 top 20 placing when their debut album peaked at number 15 in 2009.

As a solo artist, "Regions of Light and Sound of God" (2013) reached number 34 on the same chart.
3. Former member of the Runaways. Worldwide hit with "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" in 1982.

Answer: Joan Jett

The Runaways may not have managed much in the way of chart success, other than a Japanese number one with the Jett penned "Cherry Bomb" in 1976, but as a solo artist the picture is much rosier. Her cover of the Arrows song, "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" in 1982 was followed in the same year by covers of Tommy James' "Crimson And Clover" and Gary Glitter's "Do Ya Wanna Touch Me", all of which hit top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
4. Country music star, had a Billboard Hot Country chart top ten in 2008 with, "In Color".

Answer: Jamey Johnson

Although Johnson has had impressive chart success as a performer, with four of his albums between 2006 and 2012 all reaching top 20 on the Billboard Country chart in USA, he has also had great success as a songwriter for other artists. He has co-written several country hits such as "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" (2005) for Trace Adkins, "Give It Away" for George Strait in 2006 and "It's All Going To Pot" (2015) by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.
5. Vocalist for Big Brother and the Holding Company, Kozmic Blues Band and Full Tilt Boogie Band.

Answer: Janis Joplin

Gifted with one of the most incredible natural blues voices ever, it was a tragic loss when Joplin died in 1970, aged just 27, from a heroin overdose. She had her only number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA posthumously with a cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Me And Bobby McGee" in 1971, the same year that her album "Pearl", recorded with the Full Tilt Boogie Band hit the top spot on the US Billboard 200 album chart.
6. Drummer for Slipknot from 1995 to 2013. Formed extreme metal band Sinsaenum in 2016.

Answer: Joey Jordison

Jordison and Slipknot parted company in 2013 after 18 years together, during which time he had played on tracks such as "Snuff" (2009), "Psychosocial" (2008) and "Duality" (2005) as well as producing the band's first live album, "9.0: Live" in 2005. Post Slipknot, Jordison worked with Scar the Martyr between 2013 and 2016 before forming Sinsaenum with Attila Csihar from drone metal band, Sunn O))).
7. Former Disney Channel star. Vocalist for DNCE.

Answer: Joe Jonas

Jonas won hordes of teen fans when with his brothers Kevin and Nick, he formed the Jonas Brothers, who had their first Billboard Hot 100 top 20 hit in 2007 with "S.O.S.", and their first number one on that chart in 2019 with "Sucker". While the Jonas Brothers were taking a hiatus between 2010 and 2019, Joe formed DNCE, whose 2015 hit, "Cake By The Ocean" charted in many countries, doing especially well in UK where it peaked at number four.
8. Hawaiian artist that did the soundtrack for "Curious George" movie in 2006.

Answer: Jack Johnson

Johnson is a former professional surfer whose career ended after an accident at Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii left him minus several teeth and requiring over 150 stitches in his head. Luckily for us, surfing's loss was music's gain as he developed his songwriting skills, culminating in the "Brushfire Fairytales" in 2001. Since then, Johnson has released the albums, "Sleep Through The Static" (2008), "To The Sea" (2009), "From Here To Now To You" (2013) and "Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George" (2006), all of which have hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart in USA.
9. Member of Three 6 Mafia. Had a top 30 Billboard Hot 100 hit with "Bandz a Make Her Dance" featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz in 2012.

Answer: Juicy J

Jordan Houston, better known as Juicy J formed Three 6 Mafia in 1991 with DJ Paul and Lord Infamous and had their biggest chart success with "Stay Fly" in 2005. As a solo artist, Juicy has recorded with a vast array of stars, including Nicki Minaj on "Low" (2014), Ke$ha on "Crazy Kids" (2013) and the Billboard Hot 100 number one track, "Dark Horse" with Katy Perry in 2013.
10. Had a UK top ten and Billboard Hot 100 chart topper in 1986 with "When I Think Of You".

Answer: Janet Jackson

Between 1986 and 2008, Jackson had a very impressive 28 top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, of which, ten hit the number one spot. She has also worked with artists such as Luther Vandross, Shaggy, Beenie Man as well as her brother Michael on the 1995 track, "Scream". To many people though she will always be remembered for her "wardrobe malfunction" at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, when co-star Justin Timberlake tore her costume away to reveal her right breast to 140 million TV viewers.
