Born Andre Simon Anderson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andre Cymone started out as a bass player for Prince. After going solo in 1981, he had a few very small hits until he charted with "The Dance Electric", in 1985. The song peaked at number 10 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart. He is also the former husband of r&b singer, Jody Watley.

Formed in 1966 in New Orleans, Louisiana, The Meters were a four piece, instrumental band consisting of Leo Nocentelli, Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste, George Porter, and Arthur Neville. While they only had moderate success on the r&b charts (they only had two top ten hits, "Sophisticated Cissy", which climbed as high as number seven, in 1969, and 'Cissy Strut', which went to number four that same year), they were well-respected in the musical community.

They toured with the Rolling Stones, in 1975 and also had backup gigs with acts such as Robert Palmer and Paul McCartney.

The band broke up in 1977, when Arthur joined his siblings, Aaron, Charles, and Cyril to form The Neville Brothers.

While "Jammin' Big Guitar" only got as high as number 65 in 1981, the band did have score a top five hit in 1980 with the song, "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll Pt. 1".
