Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. He was a founding member of the band and later left it due to dementia resulting from too many LSD trips?

Answer: Syd Barrett

Barrett was a great innovator of the Psychedelic Rock movement and laid the groundwork for what would become one of the world's biggest bands.
2. In 1971, the band released an album titled "Meddle" that featured a song about a dog. What was this dog's name?

Answer: Seamus

This was a bluesy track on a very effect-laden album by Pink Floyd. Perhaps a tribute to their roots.
3. "The Dark Side of the Moon" features a beautiful song titled "Great Gig in the Sky" that is home to an astounding female vocal solo. What was the name of the woman who provided the solo for this track?

Answer: Clare Torry

"The Dark Side of the Moon" holds the record for most weeks spent on the Billboard charts. With songs like "Gig" it isn't hard to understand why.
4. "The Dark Side of the Moon" is said to correspond with a very famous motion picture. What picture is this?

Answer: Wizard of Oz

When you play the album and the movie simultaneously, there are several eerie similarities. Some include Dorothy balancing on a beam as the lyric "balanced on the biggest wave" appears and she then falls when the lyric following says "you race towards an early grave." The movie also changes to color as soon as "Money" starts.
5. Finish this lyric from "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" : "Come on you boy-child, you winner and loser, come on you miner for. . ."

Answer: truth and delusion

An outstanding epic on the album "Wish You Were Here." The song was written in memory of founder Syd Barrett.
6. The album "Animals" features a two-part song entitled "Pigs on the Wing." On the eight-track version of this album, the two parts are joined together by a guitar solo from what non-band member?

Answer: Snowy White

Snowy was a guy that recorded and toured with Floyd but never became an actual band member.
7. The song "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" from "Animals" says a name that is also an American landmark. Which one?

Answer: White House

This is a groovy song with some of Roger Waters' most biting social commentary. The "Whitehouse" in the song is not, apparently, the American White House, but Mary Whitehouse, a British campaigner for morality and decency.
8. "The Wall" features a song called "Nobody Home." Within this song you can hear a catch-phrase spoken in the background from what American sitcom?

Answer: Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

In the background towards the very end of the song you can hear Gomer's trademarked "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!"
9. Which of these songs from "The Wall" was not featured in the movie of the same name?

Answer: Hey You

On the special edition DVD they do, however, have a music video for the song.
10. In 2005, Pink Floyd reunited after twenty-two years of separation for the "Live 8" concert in Hyde Park of London. What song did they kick off their set with?

Answer: Breathe

I had a terrible case of insomnia the night before the concert and had been awake for nearly 30 hours when I fell asleep about an hour before Pink Floyd started playing. Since I was never able to see Floyd live, I figured this was the best chance I had of seeing them play. Luckily a friend of mine called me just before they started playing and I didn't miss it.
