Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which sadly deceased singer recorded "Caught in a Lie" "Six, Sixth Street" and "Keep it Like it Is"?

Answer: Louisa Marks

One of the best Reggae singers ever, who sadly died too young. She had many hit records on the lovers rock genre, including "Caught in a Lie" and "Keep it Like it Is."
2. Which of these is NOT a Big Youth song?

Answer: Wear You to the Ball

Not a Big Youth hit but a hit for Daddy URoy and John Holt. Big Youth had most of his success in the 70s with albums such as "Screaming Target", "Dread Locks Dread" and "Natty Cultural Dread".
One of the original 'Toasters', Big Youth set the tone for many other Dancehall artists who came later.
3. Who had a hit in the 60s with "The Beatitude" based on the Biblical Sermon on the Mount?

Answer: Slim Smith

Lovely tune and lovely lyrics based on Matthew chapter 5:1-12 called the Beatitudes or Blessings. Sadly, Slim Smith died very young which denied the world his wonderful voice. However he did record some classic reggae songs that have been recorded by other artists and sampled on other records.
4. What was the B-Side to "Breakfast in Bed" by Lorna Bennett?

Answer: Skank in Bed

A fun version featuring Scotty Bennett; it consisted of a dub version of "Breakfast in Bed" with Scotty Bennett interrupting the recording and chastising various members of the band, along with declaring his love for Lorna and her singing.
5. Who sang "She Loves Me Now", "Rock Away" and "They Gonna Talk"?

Answer: Beres Hammond

Beres has a voice like smooth silk; he made some amazing records such as the ones mentioned above and many more. He has also recorded various duets with a variety of artists like Big Youth and Maxi Priest.
He continues to record and is one of the most popular Jamaican singers ever.
6. What is Fredrick Hibbert's nickname that he is better known as?

Answer: Toots

Toots is still going strong into his 70s. Toots and the Maytals have been recording since the 60s and have a back catalogue of some of Reggae's best tunes: "54-56 that's my Number", "Monkey Man", "Time Tough", "Chatty Chatty" and many more.
7. Who had hits with "Action" and "Number 2 Pepperseed"?

Answer: Terror Fabulous

One of the great modern Dancehall stars who is often confused with Baju Banton because of his gruff sounding voice. To see slight built Terror Fabulous you would not believe it is his voice.
He has not had too many hits, but "Number 2 Pepperseed" and "Action", which he recorded with Nadine Sutherland, are among the best dance tunes around.
8. Which Dancehall queen recorded a slower love song called "Silly Dreams"?

Answer: Lady Saw

The other three are Dancehall Dancing Queens. "Silly Dreams" is a lovely lovers rock-style tune! Lady Saw used to sing more conventional Reggae love songs, but found greater success when she switched to a more raunchy style; however "Silly Dreams" is one of the loveliest Reggae records you will ever hear.
9. While they were performing "Now That We Found Love" in the USA in 1981, which RnB legend joined Third World on stage?

Answer: Stevie Wonder

10. Which UK Reggae band had a massive hit with "After Tonight"?

Answer: Matumbi

Headed by the talented Dennis Bovell who also wrote "Silly Games", a massive hit for Janet Kay.
