1. For starters, who wrote "Songs About Texas"?

Recorded four times by Pat Green on three different albums: "Live At Billy Bob's", "Here We Go", and two versions on "George's Bar" -- The second one being a hidden track with a slower version of the song including Cory Morrow and Chris Wall. The song was written in reference to the Guy Clark song, "Coat From The Cold."
2. Where can you go to "...get back to the basics of love"?

Answer: Luckenbach

Willie and Waylon recorded this song which was written in tribute to Hondo Crouch, self-proclaimed mayor of Luckenbach. Hondo purchased the "town, pop. 3" in 1970 and turned it into a Mecca for Texas musicians. Hondo once said, "We discovered that Luckenbach, on the globe, is right in the middle of the world." So he organized a World's Fair, as well as the worlds first Women's Only Chili Cookoff, and a Mud Dauber Day. Hondo died in 1976 -- the song was recorded in 1978.
