Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "We Two"

Answer: Little River Band

"We Two" (1983) came from "The Net" album of the same year, which was the first Little River Band album to feature John Farnham on vocals when he replaced founding member, Glenn Shurrock.
"We Two" wasn't a massive hit for the band, only reaching number 49 in the Kent Music Report charts in Australia, but it did almost crack the top 20, stalling at 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in USA.

"just we two got to search for something new" is the line from "Virginia Plain".
2. "Pray"

Answer: Sam Smith

Sam Smith first tasted fame when they were featured on the single, "Latch" by Disclosure in 2012. BY 2015, they had won four Grammy's, including one for Record of the Year, when "Stay With Me" (2014) scooped the prize.
"Pray" (2017) was released as a promotional single, eventually included on their second album, "The Thrill Of It All" (2017) and had its highest chart position in UK where it cracked the top 30.

The line from "Virginia Plain" is, "I hope and pray he don't blow it".
3. "Big Time"

Answer: Peter Gabriel

"Big Time" (1986) from Gabriel's album, "So" of the same year was his second American Billboard chart top ten hit after "Sledgehammer" (1986) from the same album.
"Big Time" stalled at number eight on the Billboard chart, so didn't go quite as high as "Sledgehammer" which made number one, and it was also a hit in UK, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand.

The line from "Virginia Plain" is, "tryin' to make the big time".
4. "Midnight Blue"

Answer: Lou Gramm

A top 40 hit in New Zealand, a top 20 hit in Canada, a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA but in UK, "Midnight Blue" (1987) only just scraped into the top 100.
The track was taken from Gramm's debut solo album, "Ready Or Not" (1987), released while he was still a member of Foreigner, the band he finally left in 1990 and then rejoined in 1992.

"Midnight blue casino floors" is the line from "Virginia Plain".
5. "Rio"

Answer: Duran Duran

"Rio" (1982) was the fourth UK top ten hit for Birmingham band, Duran Duran, and it also did well in Canada and Ireland, hitting the top ten in both countries.
The song was been covered by ex Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger who added a Brazilian sound to the song to promote the launch of a Brazilian Exotic Oil Infusions body wash, and it has been sung often by fans of Leeds United and Manchester United football teams in honour of Rio Ferdinand, when he played for the teams.

The line from "Virginia Plain" is, "We are flyin' down to Rio".
6. "Make Believe"

Answer: Toto

Released as a single from the album "Toto IV" (1982), "Make Believe" (1982) wasn't as successful on the charts as the singles that sandwiched it, "Rosanna" and "Africa" (both 1982), reaching just number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, compared to a number two for "Rosanna" and a number one for "Africa" on the same chart.
The song was written by Toto co-founder, keyboard player, David Paich, who has also worked Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Joe Cocker and Pink.

The "Virginia Plain" lyric is "What's real and make believe".
7. "Roller Coaster"

Answer: Justin Bieber

Everybody's favourite Canadian, Justin Bieber released so many singles in 2013, he may have saturated the market as several of them were not the hits that people expected from "Biebs". "Roller Coaster" (2013) certainly falls into that category, not even cracking the top 20 in his homeland, although it did hit number one in Denmark. Ah, those crazy Danes!
By 2015 though, he was back on track with top five hits and consecutive number one singles, turning the world into "Bielibers", one song at a time.

"Take me on a roller coaster" is the line from "Virginia Plain".
8. "Try Try Try"

Answer: Smashing Pumpkins

Although the album that "Try, Try, Try" (2000) was taken from, "Machina/The Machines of God" (2000) did well, making the top ten in the album charts of many countries, the single didn't fare so well, with a minor chart position in UK being its only position of note. This despite music critics enthusing about the track, and the video being banned from MTV due to graphic content, something which often ensures high sales.

The line from "Virginia Plain" is "We've been around a long time just try try try tryin'".
9. "Make Me"

Answer: Britney Spears

Britney's 2016 track, "Make Me...", from her "Glory" album of the same year featured rapper G-Eazy, and although it wasn't as successful as her hits earlier in the decade, it did make the top 20 in the Canadian and French charts as well as in USA on the Billboard Hot 100.
In UK, the track peaked at number 42 on the charts, making this her first single since "Ooh La La" (2013) to not enter the top 40.

In "Virginia Plain", the opening line is, "Make me a deal and make it straight".
10. "Me And You"

Answer: Kenny Chesney

Kenny Chesney liked "Me And You" so much that he recorded it as an album track on his 1995 album, "All I Need To Know", and then as the title track on his next album, "Me And You" (1996).
It was from this album that he released the track as a single and had a top ten hit with it on the Canadian country chart, as well as on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in USA.
