Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first semi-final had an interval act featuring actress Thelka Reuten and YouTuber-singer Davina Michelle. What was the title of this interval act?

Answer: The Power of Water

This interval act included Michelle performing her new single "Sweet Water". The performance used augmented reality to make it look like the Rotterdam Ahoy, the arena where the contest was hosted, is a "world of water".
2. The logo was the same as the one for the cancelled 2020 edition.

Answer: False

The logo was slightly changed, with the original logo being an abstract graphic showing every participating country by their first participation. The new logo was a similar abstract graphic, but it showed the participating countries by their geographic location, rather than the year of their first participation.
3. Several countries were represented by the artist who would initially have represented them in 2020. Which one of these countries was NOT?

Answer: France

In the cancelled 2020 contest, France would have been represented by Tom Leeb. In 2021, Leeb was not reselected by the French national broadcaster: instead, a national final was held, which was won by Barbara Pravi, who went on to represent France with her song "Voila".
4. Which country won the Barbara Dex Award?

Answer: Norway

For 2021, the criteria of the Barbara Dex Award was changed: rather than being given to the worst-dressed artist, it was given to the artist with the "most striking look" in the contest. Norway's Andres Haukeland won the award. Haukeland, better known by his stage name Tix, won the Norwegian national final, Norsk Melodi Grand Prix, beating fan-favorite band Keiino, with his song "Fallen Angel".
5. US rap artist Flo Rida participated at the 2021 contest, representing which country?

Answer: San Marino

The rules of Eurovision state that artists don't have to be from the same country they are representing (which is also the reason why Canadian legend Celine Dion could participate at the 1988 contest, representing Switzerland, and Cuban Chanel Terrero represented Spain in the 2022 contest) which allowed Flo Rida to team up with Eurovision 2011 participant, Italian-Eritrian musician Senhit to represent the microstate. San Marino qualified to the final for just the third time in their Eurovision history.
6. Italian glam rock band Maneskin won the contest, becoming the first time a band won the contest since when?

Answer: Athens, 2006

The 2006 winner was Lordi with "Hard Rock Hallelujah".

Following their win, Maneskin started a large international career, that included performing in several US late night shows, and their cover of "Beggin'" becoming a viral phenomenon.
7. Which country finished fourth despite not performing live?

Answer: Iceland

Due to a member of his band Gagnamagnid testing positive for the Coronavirus, Dadi Freyr was unable to perform live: pre-recorded footage of them performing was used instead.
8. Who replaced retiring Jon Ola Sand as Executive Supervisor starting from the 2021 edition?

Answer: Martin Osterdahl

Osterdahl, who formerly worked for Sveriges Television, was announced to replace Jon Ola Sand in January 2020, and succeeded him as Executive Supervisor following the one-off Eurovision-themed show, "Europe Shine a Light". This was held on May 16, 2020, the date the final of the 2020 contest, which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, was to have been held.
9. Which country was disqualified prior to the contest?

Answer: Belarus

The band Galasy ZMesta would have represented Belarus, however, the selected entry ("Ya Nauchu Tebya") was revealed to have broken the rules of the contest, which state that songs with political themes may not compete. Belarusian broadcaster BTRC was given an extended deadline to submit an eligible song, but the second submission ("Song About Hares") was also determined to be in violation of the rules of the contest. Belarus was thus disqualified from the contest.
10. In the final, four countries scored zero points from the televote! Which country was NOT one of them?

Answer: Norway

This was considered to be one of the most absurd moments in the history of the contest by fans. The UK, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands all scored zero points from the televote. The UK also scored zero points from the jury vote, which means they didn't score any points at all in the contest!
