Answer: David Vanian

Hugh Cornwell, The Stranglers' singer/guitarist was otherwise detained in Pentonville prison during two concerts at London Rainbow. Answer: They decided to carry on without Hugh

The band recruited former Vibrators guitarist John Elli, and singer Paul Roberts to replace Hugh. John had previously worked with JJ Burnell on the JJ solo works "Euroman" tour and as a second guitarist on Hugh's final tour with The Stranglers.
10. In 1979, the band released the single "Duchess". On the UK music chart show "Top of the Pops", the band performed this song whilst wearing black armbands. Why were they wearing black armbands?

Answer: The BBC banned the video to the song, deeming it blasphemous

As usual, the band courted controversy by filming the video to this song in a church, dressed as choirboys and doing a Nazi goosestep. The BBC deemed the material offensive and banned the video from being played on the show.
