Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First guests on the elevator are six gentlemen, who are obviously confused because they think that they are Doors. They definitely want to go up, but what reason do they give?

Answer: Been Down So Long

"Been Down So Long" was an excellent blues track from The Doors' "L.A. Woman" album in 1971. The lyrics reference the depression that Jim Morrison was feeling at the time due to the possibility of a prison sentence for indecent exposure. Morrison didn't serve jail time thanks to a $50,000 bond and died in never fully explained circumstances just three months after the release of the album.
2. OK, six men in the elevator and we're heading up when we stop at another floor and "Oh my goodness", one of my heroes, Mr. Bruce Springsteen steps in. He looks at Morrison and crew, turns to me and says...

Answer: I'm Going Down

A single released from Bruce's huge 1984 album "Born In The U.S.A.", "I'm Going Down" didn't perform as well worldwide as the other singles from the album, despite peaking at number nine on the US Billboard charts. The other, better received singles included the title track as well as "Dancing In The Dark", "Glory Days" and "My Hometown."
3. So, seven men in the elevator now, but who is this pretty lady getting in? It's Paula Abdul looking very 1988. She is very direct when I ask where she would like to go. What is her reply?

Answer: Straight Up

"Straight Up" from Abdul's album "Forever Your Girl" was a top ten hit in ten different countries. "Forever Your Girl" was Abdul's debut album and prior to recording it she was a successful choreographer for stars such as Duran Duran, Janet Jackson and oddly, ZZ Top.
4. On our way to Miss Abdul's floor, the elevator stops again and on walk four gentlemen with Birmingham accents. I'm not sure about them as they say they are an orchestra and have something to do with electric lights as well. What is their reply when I ask where they want to go?

Answer: Don't Bring Me Down

Electric Light Orchestra's "Discovery" album from 1979, gave us hits such as "Diary of Horace Wimp", "Shine A Little Love" and the worldwide smash "Don't Bring Me Down." "Discovery" was the first ELO album without a string section and interestingly, "Don't Bring Me Down" was played as a wake up call to astronauts aboard Space Shuttle Columbia.
5. OK, this elevator is getting crowded now, but still more people want on, including this very young looking Patti Smith. This is a lady who knows where she's going, so when I ask "Up or down?", she replies with specifics. Where to now?

Answer: 25th Floor

"25th Floor" was a track from Patti's 1978 album "Easter" which showcased her at her punk finest. The album also included one of her best known songs, "Because The Night", which was co-written by another elevator occupant, Bruce Springsteen.
6. How many people are in this elevator now? I make it about 13, and now we have four emo gentlemen getting in that tell me they've had a fall out with a boy or something like that. Anyway, they are very affectionate as their reply shows when I ask where they want to go. What did they reply?

Answer: Sugar We're Goin' Down

"Sugar We're Goin' Down" was taken from the album "From Under The Cork Tree" and featured a video involving a boy with deer antlers growing from his head and a man with deer legs and dealt with social acceptance.
7. A couple more people now. The gentleman, Oren Waters, is certainly a singer, but the lady with him, Ja'net Dubois may be better known for acting. Ah well, they know which direction they want to travel in. What are we doing now?

Answer: Movin' On Up

"Movin' On Up" was the theme song for TV show "The Jeffersons" which ran for 11 seasons. Oren Waters has worked with Janet and Michael Jackson as well as Paul Simon and Neil Diamond but has also appeared in several movies such as "Norbit", "Fame" and "Vampire In Brooklyn" in a singing character role. Ja'net Dubois is best known for her six seasons in TV show "Good Times" in the mid to late 70s but also played Momma Bosley in the 2003 movie "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle."
8. Next on the elevator are Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt of Status Quo. Both of them reply when I ask where we're going. What do I get told?

Answer: Down Down

Although Quo were never big in America, this track from 1975's "On The Level" album reached number one in the UK. Status Quo formed in 1967 and are still performing in 2018 with Francis Rossi as the only remaining original member.
9. Oh, our next elevator occupant looks like he means business, although he said something about only having fifty cents. Anyway, no arguing with this rapper when he tells me which direction to travel in. What did he tell me?

Answer: Get Up

50 Cent released "Get Up" in 2008 as a digital download only but it still managed to peak at number 24 on the UK chart and number 44 on the Billboard in U.S.A. In the song he mentions "California Love" as a tribute to Tupac who he has said in several interviews was a great influence on him. 50 is also a licensed boxing promoter.
10. Twenty two people in the elevator now, and I'm sorry we don't have room for all of you guys waiting. Just one of you maybe, and that will be you Mr. Tyler. All of us now look worried as Steven Tyler replies when I ask him what he would like. What did he say?

Answer: Love In An Elevator

From Aerosmith's album "Pump", and Tyler has said that the lyrics came from an experience he had in a hotel elevator! The video for the song features ex Playboy model Brandi Brandt who was married to Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue.
