The Smashing Pumpkins were formed in 1988 by lead singer Billy Corgan and James Iha. Some of their hit songs are: "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", "1979" and "Cherub Rock". Styx had hits with "Lady", "Come Sail Away", "Babe", "Show me the Way" and "The Best of Times". Fall Out Boy started in 2001 and hit the charts with "This Ain't a Scene" and "It's an Arms Race".

Led By Jim Morrison, The Doors had hits in the 60's and 70's with "Break On Through (To the Other Side)", "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You" and "Riders On The Storm". Van Halen burst on to the scene after 5 years of small gigs in 1977 with their first self titled album.

They have been led by both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar as the lead vocalist. In the 90's, the Los Angeles area produced the band Weezer. Some of their biggest songs are "Buddy Holly", "Undone - The Sweater Song" and "Beverly Hills".

In the mid-70's, Detroit saw Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band create such songs as "Night Moves", "Turn the Page" and "Old Time Rock and Roll". Ted Nugent, known as The Motor City Madmen has made such classics as "Cat Scratch Fever", "Stranglehold" and "Wango Tango". Jack and Meg White formed the White Stripes in 1997. Through 2007, they have produced six albums and won five Grammy awards.

The Ramones were one of the first punk rock bands out of New York City. Led by lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone, they sang "Blitzkrieg Bop", "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Rock 'n' Roll High School". New Wave music hit New York City in the form of Blondie. Debbie Harry was the lead singer of this band who made "Heart of Glass", "One Way or Another", "Call Me" and "Rapture".

In 1998 a garage rock revival band named The Strokes started in New York City. They have released three albums through 2006.

Athens, Georgia is the home to both The B-52's and R.E.M. The B-52's have had several fun new wave songs like "Rock Lobster" and "Love Shack". R.E.M. grew popular thru college radio and the songs "The One I love", "Fall on Me", "Losing My Relgion" and "Everybody Hurts". From Atlanta came The Black Crowes in the mid 80's. Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson had hits with "She Talks to Angels", "Jealous Again" and "Remedy".

In his brief career, Buddy Holly released "That'll be the Day", "Peggy Sue" and
"Oh Boy". After growing up in Lubbock, Holly had a great future ahead of him until he died in a plane crash in Iowa at the age of 22. ZZ Top had several hits in the 70's and was a favorite in the 80's with their songs and videos including "Sharp Dressed Man", "Legs" and "Gimme All Your Lovin". From Ennis and Arlington Texas came the heavy metal band Pantera. The band performed from 1981 till 2003 producing nine albums.

The band U2 formed in 1976 in Dublin Ireland. With Bono as the lead singer and the Edge on guitar, they have had global success with "New Year's Day", "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Vertigo". In the late 80's and 90's, The Cranberries from Limerick had hits with "Linger", "Ode to my Family" and "Zombie". Also from Ireland is Enya. Enya earned her first Grammy award in 1991 for her album titled "Shepherd Moons".

With the vocals of Klaus Meine and the lead guitar of Rudolf Schenker, the Scorpions have been a heavy metal based out of Hanover Germany since 1965.
Their albums have included "Love Drive", "Animal Magnetism", "Blackout" and "Love at First Sting". Known for her hit "99 Luftballons", Nena is from Hagen Germany. From Berlin comes the industrial metal band Rammstein. Most of the songs are written by lead singer Till Lindemann. The band was founded in 1994 by Richard Z. Kruspe.

Since the early 70's the Young brothers (Angus and Malcolm) along with former lead singer Bon Scott and current lead vocalist, Brian Johnson have been playing "High Voltage" rock. From their early success with "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" to their newest CD, "Iron Man 2" soundtrack. From Sydney, came the band INXS. MTV helped their career with the playing of their video "The One Thing" in 1983.

They also had hits with "Never Tear us Apart", "What You Need" and "Need You Tonight". Led by lead singer Peter Garrett, the band Midnight Oil has had hits with "Power and the Passion", "Beds Are Burning" and "The Dead Heart".

Formed in Liverpool England in 1960, The Beatles stayed together for 10 years creating some of the best known songs and albums. John, Paul, George and Ringo appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" as millions watched the Fab Four in 1964. From "Love me Do" to "The Long and Winding Road", the Beatles song list of hits are some of the most influential music of rock. From London England came The Rolling Stones led by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Since 1962 the Stones have been making music and touring the world playing their classic hits like "Paint it Black", "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Start Me Up". Also from London were The Kinks led by lead singer Ray Davies. From their first (third single) big hit "You Really Got Me" to "Lola" and "Come Dancing" had a career that lasted over 30 years.
