Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tim McGraw, the country music artist best known for: 1) his number one hits "Don't Take the Girl", "I Like It, I Love It" and "Back When" and 2) being married to country artist Faith Hill, had a biological father who was famous in his own right. In what field was Tug McGraw famous?

Answer: Baseball player

Frank Edwin "Tug" McGraw spent 19 years as a pitcher in the Major Leagues playing for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. Although he was Tim's biological father, he and Tim's mother never married and Tug did not even see his son until the boy was 18. Instead of being a father, he was a relief pitcher, racking up 180 saves, 1109 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.14. He was on the Mets World Series winning team in 1969 and the Phillies World Series winning team in 1980.
Typical of the way he handled the pressure of being a closer in the Major Leagues is this quote of his: "Ten million years from now, when then sun burns out and the Earth is just a frozen iceball hurtling through space, nobody's going to care whether or not I got this guy out."

"So You Want to be a Famous Country Music Singer" will be the title of deputygary's next quiz. (Deputygary has many quizzes titled "So You Want To Be a ...". Check them out.)
2. Lars Ulrich is known as the drummer of Metallica. However, his father Torben pursued a different career. What was that pursuit?

Answer: Tennis player

All of Torben Ulrich's tennis achievements from the 1940s to the 1970s are far too many to list here but some of them include:

Davis Cup
Wimbledon / All England Championships
French Championships & Open
French Senior singles title, Roland Garros (year unknown).
U.S. Championships & Open
Australian Championships & Open
Danish Championships
Scandinavian Indoor Championships
Canadian Open
Tennis Grand Masters
USTA Indoor Championships
Men's 60s title, 1989, 1990.
Men's 65s title, 1993.

This question was submitted by Llama sierot, and although he is Polish, Denmark is just down the road a bit.
3. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has made his mark in music. He also has a daughter who is making a mark for herself in the fashion industry. What is her name?

Answer: Stella Nina

When Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman were married he adopted Heather Louise, Linda's daughter from a previous relationship. They proceeded to have another three children Stella, Mary and James. Beatrice is the daughter of the relationship between Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

Stella McCartney was chief designer for Chloe and then entered a joint venture with Gucci. In 2000 designed Madonna's wedding dress.

This was the first question posed by tlc123 that kickstarted this quiz.
4. Nigel Lawson (now Baron Lawson of Blaby) is an English politician best known for his years as Chancellor of the Exchequer under Margaret Thatcher. His imaginatively named daughter Nigella is a journalist and TV presenter largely writing about which subject?

Answer: Food

Nigella's best selling books include "How to Eat" and "How to be a Domestic Goddess" while her style has led to her being dubbed the 'Queen of Food Porn'.

I'm not sure if Nigella Lawson can offer any recipes for glendathecat.
5. Mike Nesmith formerly of 'The Monkees' had a very inventive mother. What did Bette Nesmith Graham develop that would assist secretaries the world over?

Answer: Liquid Paper

She invented Liquid Paper. She was a single mother of The Monkees guitarist and songwriter Mike Nesmith and worked as a secretary. In order to correct her typing mistakes she adapted the idea whereby painters covered up their work with paint and applied the same principles to her typing errors. She sold her empire for $47.5 million in 1979 and passed away in 1980.

Luckily Exit10 had a computer otherwise she would definitely have needed Liquid Paper.
6. Australia's 20th Prime Minister was William (Billy) McMahon who ruled the nation from 10 March 1971 - 5 December 1972. Issues such as the war in Vietnam and conscription made him unpopular with the electorate and in 1972 lost the election to Labor Party leader Gough Whitlam. Name his famous offspring.

Answer: Julian McMahon (Australian actor)

Julian McMahon first came to prominence modelling Levi jeans. He then went on to act in the Australian television soap opera "Home and Away". In the US he has played many roles on programs such as "Another World", "Charmed" and "Nip/Tuck" in which he received some Golden Globe nominations. He also played the part of Dr. Doom in the "Fantastic Four". He was briefly married to Danni Minogue in 1994-1995.

Exit10 thought he was a bit of a hottie way back when. The son that is, not the father.
7. Who is the famous offspring of one of the founders of Simon & Schuster, Inc., one of the largest English language publishing houses?

Answer: Carly Simon, singer and songwriter

Simon & Schuster was founded in 1924 by Richard L. Simon and Max Schuster. They started by publishing the first crossword puzzle compendium. This led to a successful publishing business that still flourishes today. In 1945, Richard L. Simon became the parent of Carly Simon, the third of his four children. Carly Simon became an extremely successful singer/songwriter winning a Best New Artist Grammy in 1971, Best Song Academy Award in 1988, and inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.

Maninmidohio has read many books from Simon and Schuster which is why he has an Atomic Brain. ;)
8. The singer Lily Allen has a famous father who is a comedian but which one?

Answer: Keith Allen

Lily Allen made full use of 'MySpace' to launch her career which resulted in her hitting the top of the UK charts in 2006 with the song 'Smile'.
Father Keith is a stalwart of British television comedy and his film roles include appearances in 'Shallow Grave' and 'Trainspotting'. Not to be outdone by his daughter, he has been involved with several soccer related songs including 'Vindaloo' under the alias of Fat Les which reached number two in the UK charts in 1998.

Unfortunately glendathecat cannot sing or tell jokes. Occasionally she meows.
9. Owen Wilson is well known for his acting roles but what is the occupation of his famous mother, Laura?

Answer: Photographer

Laura's work has appeared in several magazines and she has authored four books of photographs. 'Avedon at Work: In the American West' won the Texas Institute of Letters' Book of the Year award.

Please note: Glendathecat doesn't have opposable thumbs so a career in photography is most unlikely.
10. Peter Scott was an Englishman who was well known for his work on the wetlands and wildlife of England. In addition he was a founder of the WWF, a bronze medallist at the 1936 Olympics and won a Distinguished Service Cross in World War II. Who was his father who passed away when he was only two?

Answer: Robert Scott (Scott of the Antarctic)

Robert Falcon Scott perished in Antarctica in the race with Roald Amundsen to be the first to reach the South Pole. This was in March 1912 two years after his son Peter was born.

tlc123 submitted this question and all of the Llamas trust that you have enjoyed playing the quiz.
