1. Born into slavery in 1797, Sojourner Truth was an amazing person. From a slave to a preacher to someone who met with President Lincoln, her life was truly amazing. What was her name at birth?

Answer: Isabella Baumfree

Sojourner Truth had been sold many times and treated cruelly. When New York freed the slaves in 1827 she took her baby and left her master. Over the years she found some of her five children but some were lost to her forever. She was an activist for the rights of women long before it was popular. She died on November 26, 1883.
2. Who wrote the famous poem "Mary Had A Little Lamb"?

Answer: Sarah Josepha Hale

Originally called "Mary's Lamb", it was first published in a book called "Poems For Our Children" in 1830 while editor of the "Ladies' Magazine" in Boston. In 1837 she became the editor of "Godey's Lady's Book" where she remained for the next 40 years.
3. Who was the first First Lady to have her wedding in the White House?

Answer: Frances Folsom Cleveland

The wedding took place on June 2, 1886 in the White House and Frances is the youngest First Lady to date. Although her husband was 48 at the time they married, Frances was a mere 21.

Anne Sullivan was born April 18, 1866. At age seven she contracted a bacterial disease called Trachoma. It went untreated at that time and robbed her of most of her sight. After several surgeries she regained partial vision and was instrumental in new techniques to teach the blind, including Helen Keller.

Answer: Eileen Collins

Eileen Collins spent 15 years with the NASA Astronaut Program. Prior to commanding the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1999, she became the first female shuttle pilot in 1995 aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. She retired in 2006.
