Sarah waited a long time for a child, too. She eventually gave birth to Isaac in her old age. Peninnah was also married to Hannah's husband and she had children before Hannah. Ruth was the mother of Obed, who is mentioned in the lineage of Jesus.

In response to God answering her prayer for a child, Hannah took Samuel to the house of the Lord in Shiloh and dedicated him to the Lord there.
