Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of Jacob's wives and concubines. (Genesis 35:23-26)

Answer: 4

Jacob's wives were Leah and Rachel and his concubines were Zilpah and Bilhah.

According to Scripture, Leah and Rachel were the daughters of Laban while Zilpah was Leah's handmaid and Bilhah was Rachel's handmaid. Both Leah and Rachel gave permission to Jacob to sleep with their handmaids to produce children.

Scripture states Leah was the mother of six sons and one daughter -- Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun and Dinah -- while Rachel was the mother of Joseph and Benjamin. Meanwhile, Zilpah was the mother of Gad and Asher while Bilhah was the mother of Dan and Naphtali.
2. Find the match for the number of daughters of Jacob. (Genesis 30:21)

Answer: 1

According to the book of Genesis, Jacob had only one daughter. Her name was Dinah, as reported in Genesis 30:21. In addition to Dinah, Jacob was the father of twelve sons.

According to Scripture, Dinah was defiled by Shechem, after which her brothers Simeon and Levi went on a ruthless killing spree out of vengeance.
3. Find the match for the number of times the Israelites marched around Jericho before the walls came tumbling down. (Joshua 6:15)

Answer: 7

According to Scripture, Joshua and the Israelites marched around Jericho seven times on the seventh day and the walls came tumbling down. According to Joshua 6, the Israelites scored a convincing military victory over the people of Jericho after the walls of the city collapsed. Scripture goes on to state that, when the Israelites invaded the town, they made a point of sparing the lives of Rahab the prostitute and her family.
4. Find the match for the number of stones David took into battle against Goliath. (1 Samuel 17:40)

Answer: 5

According to Scripture, David took five stones and put them in his pouch before entering battle against the Philistine giant Goliath. It would turn out that David needed only one stone to accomplish the seemingly impossible victory.

Make no mistake about it. David's adversary was a giant of a man. 1 Samuel 17:4 states his height was six cubits and a span, that is, about nine feet nine inches or about three meters. Scripture goes one to state Goliath had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels [That is, about 125 pounds or about 58 kilograms]; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. [That is, about 15 pounds or about 6.9 kilograms]. On top of this, Goliath's shield bearer went ahead of him.

After this incident, David's life would never be the same again.
5. Find the match for the number of people saved on the ark during the Great Flood. (Genesis 7:13)

Answer: 8

According to Scripture, eight people were saved on the ark. Those saved were Noah and his unnamed wife, as well as his three sons and their unnamed wives. The sons' names were Shem, Ham and Japheth. The account of Noah and his wife and his three sons and their wives entering the ark to escape the floodwaters can be found in Genesis 7:13.
6. Find the match for the number of yoke of oxen Elisha used to plow a field, as per 1 Kings 19:19 in the NKJV and NIV.

Answer: 12

According to 1 kings 19:19, Elisha was plowing a field with "twelve yoke of oxen before him" when he encountered Elijah, who would become his mentor. Because he was using twelve oxen (or twelve pairs of oxen, sources differ) to plow a field, it is assumed Elisha came from a prosperous family. Similar to Elijah, Elisha prophesied in the name of the LORD and performed a number of miracles. According to Scripture, his miracles ranged from causing an axe head to float on the Jordan River to raising a widow's son from the dead.
7. Find the match for the number of children Isaac and Rebekah had. (Genesis 25:25-26)

Answer: 2

According to Scripture, Isaac and Rebekah had two children, twin boys who were called Esau and Jacob. They are the first set of twins documented in Scripture. Isaac favored Esau while Rebekah favored Jacob, and this would lead to problems later on, with Rebekah helping Jacob to deceive Isaac into giving him the blessing intended for Esau.
8. Find the match for the total number of years Jacob worked to win the hand of Rachel. (Genesis 29:18-30)

Answer: 14

Jacob served Laban a total of fourteen years to win the hand of his daughter Rachel. According to Scripture, Jacob agreed to work for Laban for seven years to win Rachel's hand, but Laban deceived him and gave him his daughter Leah instead. So, Jacob agreed to work another seven years -- for a total of fourteen years -- to earn the right to marry Rachel.
9. Find the match for the number of pieces of silver Joseph's brothers received after selling him into slavery. (Genesis 37:28)

Answer: 20

According to Genesis 37:28, Joseph's brothers received twenty shekels of silver when they sold him into slavery. Although Joseph was sold into slavery and taken to Egypt and eventually tossed into prison, he ascended to become the second most powerful man in the land, surpassed by only the Pharaoh. His remarkable story is told in Genesis 37 to 50.
10. Find the match for the number of years the Israelites wandered in the wilderness. (Exodus 16:35)

Answer: 40

The correct answer is forty years. Exodus 16:35 states that during that time the Israelites were fed manna daily by God.

The number forty is a common one in the Bible. For example, Exodus 34:28 tells of Moses spending "forty days and forty nights" with God when the Ten Commandments were given.
In the New Testament, Matthew 4:1-11 tells of Jesus fasting for forty days and forty nights and being tempted by Satan.
