1. Which Phillies manager who was fired in 1933, lucked out and replaced Dodger manager Leo Durocher, during Durocher's one year suspension in 1947?

Answer: Burt Shotton

Shotton was fired for managing a string of really bad teams. In 1947, he temporarily replaced 'Leo the Lip', and went to the World Series. In 1949, he replaced Durocher permanently and went to the World Series again for the Dodgers.
2. Which pitcher was the first to throw a no-hitter in the 20th century?

Answer: Cy Young

Although all these greats threw no-hitters, Young threw his on May 5, 1904. His Boston Pilgrims defeated the Philadelphia Athletics 1-0. Larsen threw a perfect game in the 1956 World Series, Bunning threw his blanks in 1964, and Koufax was perfect against the Cubs in 1965.
3. Which pitcher in 1973, started both games in a double-header, and lost both games?

Answer: Wilbur Wood

Wood was the only pitcher listed who was in baseball in 1973. On July 20, he started both games against the Yankees. New York knocked him out quickly in both games, and defeated the White Sox.
4. Which Cleveland Indian batter went 9-for-11, in an extra inning game in 1932?

Answer: Johnny Burnett

The others were not in the Majors in 1932. In an 18 inning game against Philadelphia, Burnett set a Major League record for 9 hits in one game. The game took place on July 10th.
5. Who was the Colorado Rockies 1st first baseman, when they began their Major League quest in 1993?

Answer: Andres Galarraga

All listed were on the 1993 Rockies, but Andres who came from St. Louis the previous season was their first. He responded to the Rockies by leading the league in batting with .370. The Rockies finished their first season with a record of 67-95.
6. How many American League teams were there in 1900?

Answer: 0

The American League did not begin until 1901 with 8 teams. They were franchises from Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Milwaukee, and Detroit.
7. Which pitcher in 1985, went a perfect 11-0 for the season?

Answer: Dennis Lamp

Lamp was the only pitcher listed. Lamp went perfect for the Blue Jays in his 9th season in the Majors. He retired in 1992 after 16 seasons. Tom Zachary set a Major League record in 1928 with the Yankees, by going 12-0 for the season.
8. Who was the first rookie in Major League history, to win the league MVP Award?

Answer: Fred Lynn

These greats all won season MVP Awards. Lynn won the MVP in 1975 with the Red Sox. He batted .331, hit 21 home runs, and had 175 hits. He was still overshadowed by the teammate great Carl Yastrzemski. Robinson won the Award, but in 1949 after his 3rd season of baseball. The MVP Award began in 1911.
9. Which pitcher was the first left-hander to win the Cy Young Award?

Answer: Warren Spahn

'Spahnie' of the Milwaukee Braves won the award in 1957. With even better numbers the following season in 1958, he was runner-up to Bob Turley of the Yankees, who was the first American League pitcher to win the Cy Young Award. From 1956-1966, only one Cy Young Award was given out each season. After that, the Award went out in each league.
10. Which of the following players, was 43 years old as a rookie in the Majors?

Answer: Diomedes Olivo

Satchel Paige was 42 when he appeared in 1948, but Olivo broke his record in 1962. As a Pittsburgh Pirate, Olivo had a record of 5-1 with 7 saves in 62 games. Although Olivo showed up in the Majors as a 41 year old in 1960, he only pitched 9 innings the entire season, which kept his 'rookie status' unused.
