1. The Universtiy of Alabama was founded in 1831, but in which year did they play the first football game in school history?

Answer: 1892

The first game that the Crimson Tide ever played was against Birmingham High School on Nov. 11, 1892. The next day in a rematch Birmingham High won 5-4. The two teams played once more that season with Alabama coming out on top 14-0.
2. What was significant about the 1918 season at Alabama?

Answer: The season was cancelled due to WWI

Alabama was just one of many schools to cancel all non-academic activities during WWI.
3. The Crimson Tide football team played in the school's first bowl game in 1925. What bowl did they play in that year?

Answer: Rose Bowl

The Crimson Tide defeated Washington 20-19 in the Rose Bowl, and capped off a perfect 10-0 season. They were actually the fifth team selected for the Rose Bowl that season. Washingon accepted a bowl bid then Dartmouth, Yale and Colgate all turned down chances to play them before Alabama accepted.
4. In 1992, Alabama fans selected the all-centennial team. Kenny Stabler was elected the back-up QB. Who was selected to be the starter?

Answer: Namath

Namath quarterbacked the team from 1962-64, and Stabler from 1965-67. Namath passed for a then school record 2,714 yards in his three years at the helm. Paul "Bear" Bryant was selected as the coach of this team for posting a 232-46-9 record while at the school.
5. Shaun Alexander set a lot of school records during his time (1996-99) in a 'Bama' uniform. These records included most rushing yards in a single game. What year did he break the single game mark?

Answer: 1996 (Freshman)

He rushed for 291 yards in just his eighth collegiate game. This was on Nov. 1996 in a 26-0 victory over LSU.
6. Joe Namath and Shaun Alexander are considered the two best players in Crimson Tide history. Were either of them an All-American?

Answer: No

Neither of them were an All-American. The first offensive skill position player from Alabama, to be named an All-American, was Ozzie Newsome (WR) in 1977.
7. How many National Championships did the University of Alabama win in the 20th century?

Answer: 12

The Crimson Tide had won or shared 12 National Championships, seven of which were in the "modern era" (1936-present). The school also won 21 South Eastern Conference championships, 16 of which were out-right titles.
8. Who was the first All-American to wear an Alabama jersey?

Answer: Fred Sington

Sington, who was an All-American in 1930, was the only player on the list to earn that distinction. The others all held school records at Alabama, but were never All-Americans.
9. Did Rudyard Kipling's poem, "The Thin Red Line", have anything to due with Alabama?

Answer: Yes

The Crimson Tide were named in part through that poem. The Crimson part was due to the early team's all wearing red stockings. The tide part came into being when a sports writer who had been reffering to the team as a line of red called them a tide during an extremely rainy game. Thus the Crimson Tide came into being.
10. The first coach in school history was E.B. Beaumont who went 2-2 in his career. Who was the last man to coach the team in the 20th century?

Answer: Mike DuBose

DuBose took over the team from Gene Stallings in 1997, and compiled a 24-23 record during the four years he spent at the school. He was replaced after a 3-8 season in 2000 by Dennis Franchione. Franchione was replaced after two seasons by Mike Shula. Bryant is considered the best coach in school history posting a .824 winning percentage in 25 seasons at Alabama.
