When it took only 8 games to win the Stanley Cup, a fan threw an octopus on the ice each tentacle standing for one win. The Wings won the cup that year and it has been a tradition ever since. Now before playoff games they lower a big octopus with glowing red eyes from the rafters with smoke around it during the pre game. An octopus may get thrown on the ice after a Red Wing goal as well.
