Auburn won when freshman running back Bo Jackson lept over the goal line for a one-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the game.

The 1972 Auburn "Amazin's" team was not highly touted going into the season, but they finished with a shocking 10-1 record, with their only loss coming at the hands of LSU. Not to mention that they did it all without Heisman winning QB Pat Sullivan and All-American WR Terry Beasley, both of whom graduated the year before.

Tillman was a human highlight reel while at Auburn. Two of Auburn's former announcer Jim Fyffe's most memorable calls were the Tillman reverse and an acrobatic catch he made against Georgia Tech when all he could say was "Tillman, Tillman, Tillman!"

The series had been played for years at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL. Early on, however, it had been played in Tuscaloosa and in Montgomery, so it was not the first to be played outside Birmingham.

The Auburn-Alabama series was suspended between 1907 and 1948 because of a squabble between the two schools over the amount of per-diem money to give the players on the trip to Birmingham. Just a measly 50 cents caused a 41-year rift in one of the greatest rivalries in college football. Auburn and Alabama played only 60 times in the 20th century, Auburn and Georgia played 97 times, Auburn and Georgia Tech played 84 times, and Auburn and Florida played 77 times.

8. The winner of the Iron Bowl gets a trophy. What is it called?

Answer: The Omicron Delta Kappa/James E. Foy Sportsmanship trophy

Athough the game itself is called the Iron Bowl (because it was played in Birmingham for many years and Birmingham is known for its iron-ore deposits and steel industry) and even though the winner does pretty much own the state for the next year, the trophy is the ODK/Foy Trophy. James E. Foy was the Assistant Dean of Students at the University of Alabama, and later became the Dean of Students at Auburn University. Thus he was chosen as the ultimate ambassador for sportsmanship between the two schools.
