Answer: Philadelphia Athletics

In five seasons with the Orioles, Lefty compiled a record of 108-36. In his nine seasons with the Athletics, he went 195-79. In 1934, he found himself in a Red Sox uniform until he retired in 1941 after 17 seasons. His career throwing record was 300-141.
2. Who was the first New York Met pitcher to lead the league in wins in a season?

Answer: Tom Seaver

In his third season in the big leagues and the Mets in 1969, Tom went 25-7. He won the Cy Young Award for his efforts. Seaver had previously won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1967.
3. Three Rivers Stadium saw the first World Series night game. In which year did this happen?

Answer: 1971

It was the Pirates vs. Orioles which saw Pittsburgh down two games to none, come back to win it all, four games to three. Roberto Clemente was the series MVP.
4. Which of the following set a record for stealing 50 consecutive bases before getting caught?

Answer: Vince Coleman

Vince Coleman was a St. Louis Cardinal at the time. His streak overlapped two seasons. It began in 1988, and ended on July 28, 1989, when Nelson Santovenia of the Expos finally nailed him.
5. The first National League game in history was played between which two teams?

Answer: Boston Red Caps vs Philadelphia Athletics

The Red Caps (later Braves) and the Athletics (later defunct) opened up the National League in 1876 on April 22. It took place in Philadelphia at the Jefferson Street Grounds. Boston won the game, 6-5, and Jim O'Rourke was the first player to get a hit. Pitcher Joe Borden got the win while Athletics' pitcher Lon Knight took the loss.
6. Ernie Banks was the second player in history to play 1000 games at two different positions each. At which position did he play the most games in his career at?

Answer: First base

Mr. Cub, who spent his entire career with the Chicago Cubs played 1125 games at shortstop, and another 1259 at first base. Banks played from 1953-1971, winning consecutive NL MVPs in 1958 and 1959. He was a Hall of Fame inductee in 1977.
7. Which of the following played 21 seasons for the same team, and never saw a postseason game in their career?

Answer: Ted Lyons

The others experienced no less than six postseason series. Lyons pitched for the White Sox from 1923-1946. His Chicago team never finished better than third place. This Hall of Fame inductee led the league twice in wins.
8. Who set a record for hitting .429 in the National League in 1876?

Answer: Ross Barnes

1876 was way before time for the others listed. In the inaugural season of the National League in 1876, Barnes of the Chicago White Stockings (later Cubs), had 138 hits during the 66-game season. It was his only time that he would hit over .300 in the National League.
9. In 1920, RBIs became an official statistic. Which of the following was the first player to lead the league since then for three consecutive seasons in RBIs?

Answer: Cecil Fielder

From 1990-1992, the Tiger Fielder hit a combined 389 RBIs. Cecil was only known for his bat, as he never won a Gold Glove, and stole only two bases in his entire 13-season career.
10. Which Boston pitcher had 27 consecutive outs, no walks, no hits, and yet did not pitch a perfect game?

Answer: Ernie Shore

In a unique situation, with the first batter of the game on June 23, 1917, pitting Boston against Washington, Boston's pitcher Babe Ruth walked the first batter of the game. After arguing the call with homeplate umpire Brick Owens, he was ejected from the game. Catcher Pinch Thomas was also ejected. Shore came in relief along with a new catcher, Sam Agnew. Before Ernie's first pitch, Ray Morgan of the Senators attempted to steal second base, but was cut down by Agnew.

This was out number one. Shore then retired 26 in a row.

The runner was charged against Ruth, thus went the perfect game out the window.
