Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which two countries co-hosted the Cricket World Cup held throughout February and March 2015?

Answer: Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand were the co-hosts. The competition was held between the best cricket playing nations, divided into two pools . The top eight teams then played a knock out round to determine the top 2 teams to play out the final.
2. How many countries took part in the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup ?

Answer: 14

The 14 teams that took part in the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup were split into two pools of 7 teams each. Favourites to take out the trophy were Australia, India, South Africa and New Zealand .
3. Which strife torn nation made its ICC Cricket World Cup debut at the 2015 event?

Answer: Afghanistan

Despite its minnow ranking in world cricket, Afghanistan was in no way out of depth in the 2015 competition, making headlines with a meritorious win over Scotland.
4. Early in the 2015 Cricket World Cup, New Zealand recorded a crushing win over England, with one NZ bowler taking 7 for 33. Who was this bowler?

Answer: Tim Southee

The English batsmen had no answer to the swing and speed of Southee, and were bowled out for a paltry 123 in just 33.2 overs. NZ replied with 125/2 in 12.2 overs.

Southee's performance was the best-ever bowling figures a NZ bowler in all one day games, and the third best in all Cricket World Cup games -- the two best being Glenn McGrath (7 for 15) and Andy Bichel (7 for 20) at the 2003 World Cup, against Namibia and England respectively.
5. One batsman scored a remarkable 4 consecutive centuries in the course of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Who was this prolific scorer, and which country did he represent?

Answer: Kumar Sangakkara - Sri Lanka

Sangakkara scored centuries against Bangladesh (105), England (117), Australia (104), and Scotland (124).
6. West Indies - one of the former power houses of cricket - was defeated by which Emerald Isle country during the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup?

Answer: Ireland

Ireland defeated West Indies by chasing down a score of 305, and won two other games during the World Cup. This was a great result for a country not renowned for the strength of its cricket.
7. England progressed from the pool stage to play in the quarter finals of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Answer: False

England - the original birthplace of cricket - endured a miserable 2015 World Cup and managed only two wins, against minnows Scotland and Afghanistan, during the tournament.
8. In an amazing display of power batting, which batsman scored a sensational 237 in his side's quarter-final match against the West Indies in the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup?

Answer: Martin Guptill - New Zealand

Guptill blitzed the West Indies bowlers, scoring the most runs in a World Cup game, and the second highest ever in a one day match. He smashed 11 sixes and an incredible 24 fours in the NZ total of 393.
Highest-ever in a ODI: Rohit Sharma scored 264 against Sri Lanka in November 2014 (33 fours and 9 sixes).
9. Australia completed a 95 run win over which Asian team to reach the final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup ?

Answer: India

Australia's comprehensive victory over India demonstrated the power and all round skills of the team. A huge support base among the packed stadium in Sydney failed to lift the Indian team , who lost not only the game, but the mantel of previous cup winners from 2011.
10. The final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup was played in Melbourne on 29th March. Which two countries played out the final?

Answer: Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand fought out the final in front of 93,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. NZ scored 183, but that total was surpassed by the Australians for the loss of just 3 wickets, allowing the yellow shirts to take their 5th World Cup title.
