Answer: 54

Ruth, after setting a new season record of 29 with the Red Sox in 1919, smashed 54 for the Yankees in 1920. There would be three more 50+ home runs in a season from the Babe. The Indians' Ray Chapman was hit by a pitch from the Yankees' Carl Mays, but the Indians still went on to win the World Series against the Brooklyn Robins.
2. The 1921 season saw Tris Speaker of the Indians hit .362 with 62 doubles, Babe Ruth hit an astounding 50+ home runs, and Rogers Hornsby won his second batting title in the National League for the Cardinals. 1921 also saw William Wrigley (the gum magnate) buy the Chicago Cubs. Answer: New York Yankees

The Yankees, even after signing Babe Ruth in 1920, won the AL title with their 98-55 record in 1921, 4.5 games ahead of the Indians. Even with their Hall of Fame cast, the Yankees could not muster a World Series title until 1923 against the Giants, the team who had denied them twice in 1921 and 1922.
3. 1922 would see the last MVP for this franchise, until Brooks Robinson of the Orioles won it in 1964. Who was this slugger who smacked 246 hits and batted .420 in the season?

Answer: George Sisler

Sisler of the St. Louis Browns (later Orioles) won the AL MVP over Eddie Rommel of the Athletics. Sisler already had 257 hits in the 1920 season, setting a new record until Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners broke it in 2004. There was no AL MVP winner from 1915-1921.

Answer: Babe Ruth

205 hits along with his .393 were career highs for Ruth. This was the closest that Ruth came to winning the Triple Crown, but finished second in batting average to the Tigers' Harry Heilmann who batted .403 in the season. Ruth hit three home runs and batted .368 in the series for the Yankees' first World Series title in 1923.

Answer: Washington Senators

The controversy began when a Giant reserve outfielder approached Phillies shortstop Heinie Sand, and offered him money to "go easy on the Giants today". After Sand went to Landis, the commissioner banned O'Connell and Giants' coach Cozy Dolan. The alleged bribe drove fear in the minds of the NL and AL presidents due to the Black Sox Scandal of 1919.

The Senators won the 1924 World Series in their first appearance in the promised land. After going 23-7 in the season, the Senators' great Walter Johnson allowed 30 hits in only 24 innings in the series.

The Senators defeated the Giants, four games to three.

It was 'Murderers Row' as they were nicknamed, who finished the season with a 91-63 record. After a dismal 1925 season due to illness, Ruth came back and hit 47 home runs in 1926. The Yankees would lose to the Cardinals in the World Series, four games to three, in a series that would see Babe Ruth hit four home runs, with three of those in one game.
8. Arguably, the 1927 Yankees were the greatest team in baseball history with their all-star roster of Ruth, Gehrig, Meusel, Lazzeri, Combs, Hoyt, Pennock, and others. Answer: Philadelphia Athletics

It was the beginning of three consecutive World Series appearances for Philadelphia to remove the limelight away from the Yankees. They rostered Mickey Cochrane, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Lefty Grove. They won it all in 1929 against the Cubs, then again against the Cardinals, but lost in 1931 to the same Cardinal team.
