1. The 2004 Challenge held in Dundee, Michigan had some of the best high school teams in the state invited. At this tournament 2, two-time state champions who were both undefeated (entering the tournament) were entered in the heavyweight division. One of these wrestlers was Cosell Beavers of Dundee. Who was the other?

Answer: Joss Cross, Montrose

Cosell Beavers won a division 4 state title at heavyweight in 2002. He won the division 3 crown the following year again at heavyweight. Joss Cross won two consecutive division three state titles in the 215lb weight class. The two wrestled each other in both 2003 and 2004 at the Whittibslager challenge, with Beavers emerging victorious both times. 7-5 in OT in 2003, and 5-4 in 2004.
2. Who won the Medina (Ohio) Tournament in 2004?

Answer: Davison, MI

Davison won the tourament by 4 1/2 points over St. Edward. St. Edward, Massilon Perry, Blair Academy, and Davison entered the tournament ranked first through fourth (in that order) in the country by Wrestling USA magazine.
3. Who won the Goodrich Tournament of Champions in 2004?

Answer: Dundee, MI

With Davison attending the Medina Tournament in Ohio, the same weekend the Goodrich Tournament of Champions was still a hotly contested tournament. Goodrich invited most of the top ten ranked teams in each of the four divisions in Michigan. The 32 team field included three teams that were ranked number 1, and four teams ranked number 2. No team that was entered was ranked lower than 10th in it's respected division. Dundee won the tournament for the second consecutive year.
4. Michigan State University had a pair of brothers (Nick and Andy Simmons) that were both four-time undefeated state champions. What Michigan high school did the Simmons Brothers attend?

Answer: Williamston

Both brothers went to MSU on full scholarships. Their father was also an undefeated state champion at Williamston while in high school.

Answer: Novi

Ryan was a 3-time state champion and his brother Mark was a 2-time champion himself. While attending high school together, they led Novi to the team state finals two years in a row.
6. Chase Metcalf was an undefeated state champion for Davison High School his senior year. His brother Brent was a freshman that year. Did Chase win more matches than Brent during that year?

Answer: No

Chase went an amazing 55-0 winning his second straight state championship. Brent however went 56-0 beating another previously undefested wrestler (Tom Nowitzke of Monroe) 11-2 in the finals.
7. Finishing his career with only 2 losses, both coming as a freshman Roger Kish of Lapeer West, MI had how many career victories?

Answer: 252

Roger and his brother James both recieved full scholarships to Minnesota to continue their careers.
8. Nick and Andy Simmons were both 4-time undefeated state champions. How many combined victories did they have in high school?

Answer: 430

Nick had 211 wins from 1998-2001, and Andy had 219 wins from 1999-2002. They led Williamston to a team state championship in 1999.
9. In the 2003-04 season, which Michigan had the most wrestling state championships with 11?

Answer: Temperance-Bedford

Temperance-Bedford is widely considered to be the greatest wrestling school in the state of Michigan. They were the only team to ever go to the team state tournament every year since the team format was adopted in 1988, until Monroe pulled off a 30-29 upset in the 2003 District tournament.
10. Upon retirement, which Temperance-Bedford coach set a state record for coaching victories?

Answer: Bill Regnier

Bill Regnier had a then record 500 dual meet wins. He led Temperance-Bedford to 9 team state championships. Denny Brighton took over as head coach from Regnier. Bankowski was a junior high coach, and coached at a few other high schools but was never a head coach for Temperance-Bedford. Whittenburg was a JV coach during the 1980's for Temperance-Bedford.
