Answer: Ron Guidry

Guidry won the 1978 AL Cy Young Award with the number 49 on his back, and finished as runner-up to the MVP in the season to Jim Rice of the Red Sox. Ron played his entire career of 14 seasons in the pinstripes, finishing with a 170-91 record.

Answer: Ted Williams

Ted wore the number 9 throughout his career, winning two MVPs and batting for two Triple Crowns. Williams played his entire career in Boston from 1939-1960. Yaz wore the number 8 with the Red Sox from 1961-1983. Maybe Carl took over to carry the torch in 1961? He might have done it well.

Brock was the second player in the 20th Century to steal over 100 bases in a season (Dodger Maury Wills in 1962) by stealing 118 in 1974. Lou wore the number 20 in the outfield for 16 seasons in St. Louis. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985.
4. The Pittsburgh Pirates retired the number 4 of Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner. Answer: Roberto Clemente

Clemente wore the number 21 with the Pirates and began his career in 1955. He was killed in a humanitarian mission aircraft crash to Nicaragua in 1972. Roberto was the NL MVP in 1966, and finished third in the MVP voting in 1967 to Orlando Cepeda and Tim McCarver, both of the Cardinals. Clemente departed baseball and life with exactly 3000 hits, with his last career hit being a double of the Mets' Jon Matlack in his next to last game of his career on September 30, 1972.

The Pirates won that game, 5-0.

Tom wore the number 47 with the Braves in 17 of his 22 seasons in the Major Leagues. He went to the Mets for five seasons in 2003, but retired as a Brave in 2008. Glavine went 305-203 in his career and won two Cy Young awards with the Braves in 1991 and 1998.

The All-Star Reds shortstop played his entire career with the Reds from 1970-1988 with the number 13 on his back. He went to four World Series with the Reds while winning two. Bench wore the number 5, while Morgan donned the number 8.

Nicknamed "Big Hurt", Frank retired in 2008 with 521 home runs, tied with the great Willie McCovey and Ted Williams.
