Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "HE RUB BAT, he hit home run", is what fans would say when this slugger set a season home run record by hitting 29 in 1919. Who was this?

Answer: Babe Ruth

Ruth set his record of 29 with the Red Sox, but he certainly wasn't done. As a Yankee, he broke his own record in 1920 by hitting 54, then broke it again in 1921 by hitting 59. He broke his own record for the third and final time in 1927 when he blasted 60. Ruth retired with 714 career home runs.
2. After winning the Rookie of the Year award, this third-season Phillie must have had a HANDY ARROW in 2006, because he pierced 58 home runs in the season, winning the MVP award. Who is he?

Answer: Ryan Howard

In 2007, Ryan hit another 47 home runs, leaving him fifth in the MVP voting.
3. Like a ITCH SKIMMED, this slugger won three consecutive home run crowns in the 1970s, and eight in a 13-season span. Who was this National League slugger?

Answer: Mike Schmidt

Schmidt was a Philadelphia Phillie from 1972-1989. He won the three crowns from 1974-1976, then either led or tied the league in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, and 1986. Mike retired with 548 home runs in 1989, then was a hall inductee in 1995.
4. Some think that he had DRIED NUKES in the World Series because he hit four home runs in World Series play twice. He was a Dodger. Who is this slugger?

Answer: Duke Snider

Snider played for the Dodgers from 1947-1962. He hit four big ones in the 1952 series, and four more in the 1955 series, both against the Yankees. Nicknamed the "Silver Fox", Snider retired with 407 home runs. He was a 1980 Hall of Fame inductee.
5. He never used ZEBRAS MILK OIL, but did hit the first walk-off World Series-winning home run. Who was this Pittsburgh Pirate?

Answer: Bill Mazeroski

Mazeroski did it to the Yankees in the 1960 World Series. The Yankees shined over the Pirates in almost every stat in the series, except for games won. The Pirates were victorious in seven games, but the Yankees' Bobby Richardson was still the series MVP.
6. When my manager wanted a SUPER TALL JOB, he would let me swing away. I was a Rookie of the Year, and hit more than 30 home runs in each of my first eight seasons. Which St. Louis Cardinal am I?

Answer: Albert Pujols

Pujols won the Rookie of the Year in 2001. He hit 37 home runs as a rookie. In his eighth season, Albert had already reached the 300 home run mark. He was the runner-up MVP in 2002, 2003, and 2006, while winning it in 2005.
7. This slugger made franchise history for his Brewers in 2007. He was their first to hit 50 home runs in a season. Who was this that had a FIERCE NERD LIP?

Answer: Prince Fielder

Fielder was in his third season with the Brewers when he hit 50 in 2007. This was still only good for a third place finish for the MVP award, losing to Jimmy Rollins and Matt Holliday, respectively.
8. My nickname was just too simple. I might have like SALAMI NUTS just to be different. I never won a home run crown, but I did win seven batting in the National League. Who am I?

Answer: Stan Musial

"Stan the Man" was Musial's nickname, and with all the different nicknames around baseball, his seemed rather dull. His bat was not dull for the Cardinals, winning three season MVPs, and being runner-up another four times. Even though hitting 475 career home runs, Stan never won a home run title, but he did finish second to Pittsburgh's Ralph Kiner in 1949.
9. No matter what team I played for, I would REMAIN MR ZANY. I hit my 500th home run in 2008, to become the 24th player in history to ever do that. Who am I?

Answer: Manny Ramirez

Manny reached the 500 home run mark with the Red Sox in 2008, then was traded to the Dodgers in the season. Ramirez began his career with the Indians in 1993, and was a Rookie of the Year award runner-up with them.
10. Tony Gwynn and this TEE POSER both led the league in hits seven times in their careers. The TEE POSER won three batting titles while Gwynn won eight. He somehow still had more than 1000 career hits compared to Gwynn. Who was this?

Answer: Pete Rose

Pete played from 1963-1986 with the Reds, Phillies, and Expos. Rose retired with 4256 hits, breaking Ty Cobb's career record of 4189. Both Rose and Cobb played for 24 seasons.
