When Newton Heath became Manchester United the club was languishing in the 2nd Division. It would be another three years before the club gained promotion to the 1st division.

Answer: Ernest Mangnall

Under Mangnall, United won two championships in 1908 and 1911, the FA Cup in 1909, and the inaugural FA Charity Shield in 1908. Mangnall resigned in 1912 to join rivals Manchester City.

Answer: Grimsby Town

United paid a princely sum of 600 pounds for the half-back, who went on to play 299 times for United and scored 23 goals between 1904-13.
