Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following statements about World Bowl '91, the very first World Bowl game, is false?

Answer: The game was played in Edinburgh, Scotland

Wembley Stadium, the home of the now-defunct London Monarchs, served as host of World Bowl '91 (retroactively referred to as World Bowl I). The Monarchs were led by former Maryland quarterback Stan Gelbaugh, who punted for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL before getting another chance to play quarterback at the pro level. Gelbaugh threw two touchdown passes in the game. Safety Dan Crossman earned the game's MVP award by intercepting three passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
2. World Bowl '92 was the only game in the series to feature two US-based teams. Which North American WLAF city hosted that game?

Answer: Montreal, Quebec

Led by game MVP David Archer, the Sacramento Surge defeated the Orlando Thunder 21-17 at Olympic Stadium in Montreal. For North American fans of the WLAF, this game was also the final time teams based on the continent played in the league.
3. The now-defunct Barcelona Dragons picked up their only league championship when they beat which team to win World Bowl '97?

Answer: Rhein Fire

Quarterback Jon Kitna threw for 401 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Barcelona to a 38-24 victory. Kitna would go on to have successful stops in Seattle and Cincinnati in the NFL.
4. World Bowl 2000, between the Rhein Fire and the Scottish Claymores, turned out to be a low-scoring affair. How many points did the two teams score combined?

Answer: 23 points

Scotland's Aaron Stecker had the longest scoring play of World Bowl 2000, a 36-yard run that gave the Claymores an early 7-3 lead over the Rhein Fire. In fact, after falling behind 13-10, they had a chance to tie the game the waning seconds, but kicker Rob Hart's 40-yard field goal attempt sailed wide. Rhein's Danny Wuerfful won the game's MVP award, despite going only 12 of 30 for 90 yards and 2 interceptions.
5. The Berlin Thunder captured its first league title in 2001, when they defeated which team to win World Bowl IX?

8. Which statement about World Bowl XIV is true?

Answer: It marked the second straight time the game was held in Dusseldorf

9. Which league city served as the host for World Bowl XV in 2007?

Answer: Frankfurt

Commerzbank-Arena (formerly known as Waldstadion) hosted its third World Bowl game in 2007. The Galaxy, at that time holders of four league championships, were seeking a second straight title on their home field.
10. In contrast to World Bowl 2000, World Bowl XV turned out to be a scoring showcase. How many points did the two teams combine to score?

Answer: 65 points

The Hamburg Sea Devils won their first NFL Europa title by defeating the Frankfurt Galaxy 38-27, in Frankfurt. Quarterback Casey Bramlet earned MVP honors by throwing for 347 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Less than a week after World Bowl XV, the NFL announced that it was shutting the doors on NFL Europa, as it would use the main league to continue leveraging international exposure to the game.
