Patrese was runner-up to teammate Nigel Mansell in what was a dominating year for Williams, winning ten of the sixteen events. Patrese won in Japan in 1992, the last of his six career F1 wins. He also finished third in 1989 and 1991 for Williams and fifth for Benetton in 1993.

Elio's youth podium was broken by Ralf Schumacher and Fernando Alonso.

Regazzoni finished second in a Ferrari to Emerson Fittipaldi. Regazzoni finished third his rookie season, despite a limited schedule. The five-time Grand Prix winner's career ended after an accident at the 1980 U.S. Grand Prix West. He died in December 2006 of a car accident on the A1 motorway near Parma.
