1. Which National League pitcher won 13 consecutive Gold Gloves, including all the 1990s?

Answer: Greg Maddux

The others were all American Leaguers at the time, and none of them were pitchers. Maddux of the Cubs and the Atlanta Braves, began his streak in 1990 until 2002. Ironically, teammate Mike Hampton broke Greg's streak by winning the Glove in 2003.
2. How many times in the great 17 year career of Johnny Bench, did he win the Rookie of the Year Award?

Answer: 1

The Rookie of the Year Award, is given to the most outstanding rookie in each league during their rookie season only. Bench won the Rookie of the Year in 1968 as a Cincinnati Red. His entire career was with the Reds for 17 seasons. Bench edged out New York Met pitcher Jerry Koosman for the award. Johnny was also the 1970 and 1972 National League MVP.

He retired in 1983, and later went into television and broadcasting.
3. Who was the first to win a Manager of the Year Award in both the American and National League?

Answer: Bobby Cox

Anderson won two with the Tigers, Lasorda two with the Dodgers, and Tony LaRussa was the first manager to win four Manager of the Year Awards. But it was Bobby Cox, who won his first in 1985 with the Blue Jays, then his second with the Braves in 1991.
4. Who was the first pitcher in history to win a season MVP Award in 1913?

Answer: Walter Johnson

The others all retired before 1913. The Washington Senators' Walter Johnson, who went 36-7 in 1913, won the third-issued American League Award. He would have been a shoe-in for the Cy, had the Cy Young Award not waited until 1956 to be presented. Johnson placed ahead of Indians great Joe Jackson for the Award. Johnson won the AL MVP in 1924 also, defeating White Sox great, Eddie Collins.
5. From 1940-1943, which player was the only Hall of Fame inductee?

Answer: Rogers Hornsby

The others were inducted more than 10 years later. Due to WWII, only one player was inducted during this period. Hornsby played most of his 23 seasons with the Cardinals of St. Louis. He won two Triple Crown Awards, two season MVP's, and retired with a .358 batting average.
6. Who was the first Pittsburgh Pirate to win a Cy Young Award?

Answer: Vernon Law

The others listed never played for the Pirates, and won their games before the Cy Young was presented. The Cy Young Award began in 1956. Until 1967, it was given to only one pitcher in the Majors, then awarded it to the most outstanding pitcher in both leagues. Nicknamed, 'Deacon' and 'Preacher', Law won the award in 1960 by throwing a 20-9 record.

He beat the Braves' Warren Spahn by twice the vote.
7. Which player was the 2003 All-Star game MVP?

Answer: Garret Anderson

Anderson was in his 10th season of baseball, and all with the Angels. In 2002, he was number four in the season MVP, behind winner Miguel Tejada of the A's, then Alex Rodriguez of the Rangers, and Alfonso Soriano of the Yankees.
8. Which player won the first World Series MVP Award?

Answer: Johnny Podres

Although all World Series MVP's, Podres won the inaugural award in 1955. Regardless of pitching a 9-10 record in the regular season, Podres helped lead the Dodgers to victory over the Yankees 4-3, by winning two games.
9. When was the Rolaids Relief Pitcher Award first awarded?

Answer: 1976

The inaugural award was presented in 1976, to the most oustanding relief pitcher in both leagues. Rawley Eastwick of the Reds, with a record of 11-5 and 26 saves, joined Twins ace Bill Campbell to receive the first award.
10. Who was the first player in history to win three consecutive season MVP Awards?

Answer: Barry Bonds

The others listed all won two MVP's, but none consecutive. From 2001-2003, Bonds won three straight MVP's. The Award in 2003 was Barry's sixth MVP. Four were with the Giants, and two were with the Pirates in 1990 and 1992.
