Syracuse lost 70-63 to mainly underappreciated John Calipari coached Memphis Tiger team. Freshman sensation Carmelo Anthony was dynamite in his first collegiate game, scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 boards. Memphis earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2003.
