The team of officials in tennis is often quite an extensive network of people that includes the line judges, chair umpire and referee. The line judges are spread around the court with one judge per line, though in smaller tournaments some judges scrutinise two lines.

The chair umpire has a better view of the whole court than individual line judges and is given the authority to make calls on any line of the court. The umpire can also overrule the calls made by the line judges and these are known as corrections.

However, since the introduction of Hawk-Eye where players can challenge the call, a vast number of "corrections" from the chair aren't really corrections at all!
