Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. With four of the eleven, which club had the most representatives in the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team?

Answer: Manchester City

All four clubs have players in the top eleven (the dream team) but the 2011-12 champions sent the most. Those four Manchester City players are goalkeeper Joe Hart (166 points), defender Vincent Kompany (145 points), attacking midfielder David Silva (184 points) and striker Sergio (Kun) Aguero (211 points).
2. Five clubs are represented in the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team. Which small London club is the only one to send a single member?

Answer: Fulham

Fulham's excellent American Clint Dempsey (209 points) is the player. After the end of the season Dempsey, the first American to score a Premiership hat trick and to reach 50 Premiership goals, moved on to Tottneham Hotspur.

Of the incorrect options, West Ham did not play in the Premiership in 2011-12 and Wigan Athletic is not even a London club. Queens Park Rangers is the only relevant option, but they were engaged in fierce relegation battles, and stayed up despite losing dramatically 2-3 to Manchester City in the last game of the season (after leading 2-1 with 4 minutes to go), however none of their players managed to clinch a dream team spot.
3. Players of which nationality are NOT represented in the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team?

Answer: Israeli

The only Israeli who played in the Premier League in 2011-12 was Yossi Benayoun (on loan from Chelsea to Arsenal). However, he was a sub and did not score remotely enough to be included in the dream team (only 59 points).

The Belgian representative is Manchester City's classy defender Vincent Kompany (145 points), the Argentinian is Manchester City's lethal striker Sergio (Kun) Aguero (211 points) and the Welshman is Tottenham Hotspur's flashy midfielder Gareth Bale (195 points).
4. Chelsea had a turbulent 2011-12 season. Young Portuguese manager André Villas-Boas was sacked, but the club still managed to win the FA Cup and clinch a historic UEFA Champions League title. So, how many Chelsea players were represented in the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team?

Answer: 0

Despite winning those titles, Chelsea's league season has been pretty mediocre which was reflected in the failure of any of its players to score enough points to make it to the dream team.
5. Four English players were represented in the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team. Which one of the following is one of those four?

Answer: Kyle Walker

Tottenham Hotspur's consistent young defender made it with 140 points, much to the surprise of many. Manchester United's Patrice Evra was the top defender (159 points), but he's French.

The other three Englishmen were Manchester City's goalkeeper Joe Hart (166 points), Arsenal's attacking midfielder Theo Walcott (169 points) and the ever-present Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney (230 points).
6. Which player in the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 scored the most points?

Answer: Robin van Persie

2011-12 will be distinctly remembered as Robin van Persie's season. Arsenal's Dutch striker (transferred to Manchester United after that superb season) scored a mammoth tally of 30 goals and delivered as many as 13 assists. Along with 45 bonus points, he ended the season with 269 points.
7. This Everton defender did not make to the official Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team although it is safe to assume he would have if it wasn't for an injury he sustained in the season's last month. Which defender?

Answer: Leighton Baines

Baines, a consistent Fantasy Football asset whose attacking properties coupled with the fact that he was the regular Everton penalty, corner and free kick taker, made him a very attractive choice, despite his high price. In 2011-12 he scored 134 points, just 6 off Kyle Walker's dream team spot.
8. The FA Premier League fantasy football rules mandate at least 3 defenders in the starting lineup. As a result of this sanction, a few midfielders and strikers who scored really well were left out of the 2011-12 dream team. Who of the following is NOT one of them?

Answer: Luis Suarez

Chelsea's Mata (162 points), Manchester United's Nani (157 points) and Sunderland's Sessègnon (161 points), as well as a few other players, all scored more than the lowest scoring top defender (Kyle Walker with 140 points) and would have entered if it wasn't for that policy.

Suarez scored a good 136 points, which was not enough by any standard. An 8 match ban sanctioned by the FA as a result of racial abuse of Manchester United's defender Patrice Evra, who ironically did make it to the dream team, eliminated his chances of doing so.
9. Only two cities are represented in the official Barclays Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team.

Answer: True

The 11 members of the dream team were 5 players from London - Arsenal (2), Tottenham Hotspur (2) and Fulham (1) and 6 players from Manchester - City (4) and United (2).
10. If you took a look at the official Barclays Premier League fantasy football 2011-12 dream team, which colour would you NOT have spotted in the players' jerseys?

Answer: Yellow

The only club which could have contributed a yellow jersey was Norwich City. However, none of its players made it to the 2011-12 dream team.
