Answer: Germany

The German team of Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch, Tobias Arlt and Tobias Wendl completed the team luge relay in the fastest time, beating out Russia and Latvia who placed second and third. The team relay is run in three stages: an individual men's, individual women's and men's doubles. Germany swept all four gold medals in luge events in Sochi. Geisenberger won the women's event. Loch won the men's event and Arlt and Wendl won the men's doubles.
2. Both the men's and women's ice hockey tournament

Answer: Canada

The Canadian men's team defeated Sweden 3-0 in the final game to win the gold. This was Team Canada's second consecutive gold medal in this event. Some of the more famous players on the men's team included Sidney Crosby, Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty.

The Canadian women's team defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime play. This was the fourth consecutive win for the Canadian women in this event and the second time in a row they defeated the U.S. in the finals.

Answer: Ted Ligety

Ted Ligety of the United States won the Men's Giant Slalom event at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He was the only American man to win a gold medalin alpine skiing at these games. He finished .48 seconds ahead of silver medalist Steve Missillier of France. Ligety completed his first run in 1:21.08, which was the fastest run of the competition and allowed him to win the gold medal despite a lackluster second run.
4. Men's sprint biathlon with a time of 24:33.5

Answer: Ole Einar Bjorndalen

Ole Einar Bjorndalen won the gold for Norway with a time of 24:33.5. This win coupled with the gold medal he won in the Mixed Team Biathlon, allowed Bjorndalen to become the most decorated Winter Olympian with a total of 13 medals. His win in the individual spring biathlon also made him the oldest man to win an individual gold medal in the Winter Olympics. He is nicknamed the King of the Biathlon.

Adelina Sotnikova won the event for Russia, beating our silver medalist Kim Yuna of South Korea and bronze medalist Carolina Kostner of Italy. She dominated the free skating program and beat her nearest competitor by almost six points. In the short program, Sotnikova narrowly placed second but her performance in the free skating program was more than enough to make up the points.
6. The inaugural women's ski jumping event (normal hill).

2014 was the first time women were allowed to compete in ski jumping. Women only had one event, the normal hill, while the men had three: the normal hill, large hill and team large hill. Carina Vogt of Germany won the gold medal with a total of 247.4 points in two jumps. Austrian Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and Coline Mattel of France placed second and third, respectively.

The Netherlands is known for its long track speed skating. At the 2014 Games, the Netherlands won 23 of the 36 medals given out in long track speed skating, including 8 golds.

In both team pursuits, the Dutch set Olympic records. For the men, the medalists were Jan Blokhuijsen, Sven Kramer and Koen Verweij. The completed the gold medal race in 3:37.71. For the women, the medalists were Jorien ter Mors, Marrit Leenstra, Ireen Wurst and Lotte van Beek (the latter skater only raced in preliminary rounds). They completed the gold medal race in 2:58.05

The slopestyle snowboarding event is a performance event, not a racing event. American Sage Kotsenburg won the gold medal with a best score of 93.50. In the slopestyle event, boarders complete two runs but only the best score counts. Stale Sandbech of Norway won silver while Mark McMorris of Canada won the bronze.
9. The inaugural team figure skating event

The Team Figure Skating event features the following events: men's individual, women's individual, pairs figure skating and pairs ice dancing. Each discipline had a short program and a free program. Teams were allowed to switch athletes between the short programs and the free programs. Typically, teams used their best performers for the free program and their second best in the short.

After the short programs were completed, the bottom five teams were eliminated. Expectations before the games became reality with Russia winning the gold, Canada the silver and the United States the bronze.
10. Women's freestyle skiing moguls - her sister earned silver.

Justine Dufour-Lapointe of Canada outperformed her sister Chloe by less than a point in the final run. American Hannah Kearney (who won the gold in this event in 2010) won the bronze. In the freestyle skiing mogul event, athletes ski down a course with moguls (bumps of snow) scattered throughout. They are judged by speed, turns and jumps.
