Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Geordi is in a state of relief when a female Starfleet officer, whom he does not have romantic feelings for but has romantic feelings for him, is joined by Picard to work on a small task in engineering while the captain is preoccupied with the Enterprise's malfunctioning warp drive.

Answer: Phantasms

Geordi and his engineering team are experimenting with a new warp drive that keeps malfunctioning, causing the Enterprise to stall in space and further delaying Picard's attendance at a special banquet for Starfleet admirals. His worrying about the banquet eventually leads the captain to go to engineering to oversee Geordi's progress, but his presence there and his desire to offer a hand only hinders his chief engineer's work. Luckily for Geordi, a beautiful lady on his engineering team named Ensign Tyler offers to have the captain help with a different project in another area, thus sparing Geordi the continued discomfort in having to endure the ensign's attempts at getting romantically close to him.

In "Q Who", it's true that Geordi did not have romantic feelings for the recent academy graduate on his engineering detail named Ensign Sonya Gomez, but the ensign wasn't trying to make any kind of play for romantic closeness either; she was only excited to be a part of the Enterprise's mission for exploration. "Identity Crisis" saw Geordi reunited with his long-time friend Commander Leitjen after serving time together on the original mission to Tarchannen III, but neither had romantic feelings for the other.

Then in "Aquiel", Geordi did have a brief romance--with the beautiful alien lieutenant named Aquiel Uhnari, who had been captured by the Klingons after fleeing from the scene of the alleged murder of her space station colleague, Keith Rocha.
2. The Enterprise is tractored inside of a massive alien structure, only managing to escape from that structure with the help of a smaller Federation vessel piloted by two humanoids.

Answer: Relics

After Geordi revives Scotty from transporter suspension onboard the derelict U.S.S. Jenolen, the two engineers work together to reactivate the engines of the old Federation ship. Once the Enterprise is tractored through the opened doorway of the massive fortress surrounding the mysterious Dyson sphere, Geordi and Scotty come up with the idea of using the U.S.S. Jenolen itself to serve as a wedge to keep the hatch to the entrance of the fortress open long enough for the Enterprise to fly through and escape.

In "Descent, Part 1", although the Enterprise does get fired upon by the Borg ship immediately after its arrival at the Ohniaka Outpost, the Collective (behaving as individuals) doesn't fire a tractor beam upon the Enterprise at any time.

In "Masks", the alien archive uncovered from within the comet doesn't tractor the Enterprise either; it only scans the Enterprise and begins gradually transforming the ship into a replica of the alien civilization that constructed it millions of years ago prior to the crew encountering it in space.

Then in "Booby Trap", we do see a smaller (and much older) vessel within the debris field: a Promellian battle cruiser. However, this particular ship doesn't aid the Enterprise in escaping from the same debris field that it found itself trapped in during its conflict with its interplanetary enemies, the Menthars. Besides that, the Enterprise is never tractored into the debris field nor inside any other portion of space in this episode.
3. Riker attempts to notify Starfleet about a problem that's occurred on the Enterprise after meeting with crewmemebrs in the Observation Lounge, but he's unable to complete the voice command to the ship's computer after everyone else has exited the room.

Answer: Genesis

As a result of everyone on the ship having been exposed to the airborne T-cell mutations, crewmembers begin showing off signs of their individual de-evolved states early on. With Picard and Data on the brief away mission to retrieve the launched probe, Riker is in command, and he calls Geordi, Nurse Ogawa and Barclay into the Conference Room to discuss how to proceed next.

At the end of the meeting, Riker asks the computer to send a secured message to Starfleet Command, but his lapse in concentration and focus, which we discover later is as the result of the decreased size of his brain from his de-evolution to an ape, prevents him from completing the voice command to the ship's computer.

In "Conspiracy", it's true that there's a problem on the ship--the alien parasite having taken possession of the admiral who comes aboard--but Starfleet Command is already aware that there is a problem of some kind, even though the top-ranking officers that Picard meets with at Starfleet Headquarters don't realize that the problem is the officers themselves are being possessed by the aliens.

In "Conundrum", it is true that there were a couple of problems on the ship: everyone having their memories of their identities wiped out, and the alien masquerading as 'Commander McDuff', who becomes a problem on the ship when he tries to persuade Picard and the bridge crew to destroy the Lysian's central command station. Though in both cases, none of the crew tries to contact Starfleet Command: retrieving their identities through the ship's main computer solves the first problem; phasering 'Commander McDuff' to death solves the second problem. Then in "Violations", the problem on the ship is the seemingly random comas happening to various members of the crew being initiated by the alien named Jev. Again, however, neither Riker nor anybody else on the ship tries to contact Starfleet, as the problem ends with Jev being physically subdued by Worf after attempting one last memory violation on Counselor Troi.
4. Counselor Troi is escorted to her quarters by Worf, but upon entering inside, she screams, believing to have seen something strange looking back at her through a mirror.

Answer: Clues

It's revealed towards the end of this episode that Troi had been temporarily possessed by the Paxans in order to communicate to Picard and the rest of he crew, negotiating the crew's safety in exchange for all memory of the aliens' existence to be permanently wiped and forgotten. Presumably, it was the alien presence inside of her that Troi meant when she remarks that, after being escorted to her quarters by Worf following a brief moment of disorientation while on the bridge, that there was something else looking back at her when she looked into the mirror, despite seeing her own reflection.

In "The Loss", the only strange occurrence Troi experiences is her inability to sense everyone on the ship, her empathic powers having been temporarily overloaded and unable to process anything as a result of the crew encountering the two-dimensional aliens.

In "Night Terrors", other than Troi gasping after her first 'dream' encounter with the aliens, then calling out to the aliens in her attempts to communicate with them, she is never screaming in this episode.

A similar thing holds true for "Imaginary Friend": it's the girl named Clara screaming (while Troi is gasping in surprise) when the alien masquerading as 'Isabella' suddenly materializes in Ensign Sutter's quarters after the counselor has checked a closet for proof of the imaginary friend that Clara claimed to have been seeing.
5. Wesley is formally made into an acting ensign in this episode.

Answer: Where No One Has Gone Before

As a reward for his role in working with The Traveler to help get the Enterprise and its crew back into their own galaxy, Picard calls Wesley to the bridge where, in front of the entire crew, formally announces that the resourceful teenager has been bestowed with the title of acting ensign.

As a side privilege, Wesley is allowed to sit in one of the chairs down in the command center next to Counselor Troi, Riker and the captain himself. By the time the other three episodes air, Wesley is already performing his duties under his newly-bestowed rank.
6. After "Encounter At Farpoint", this was the NEXT episode that did not conclude a season of the series and whose second part also did not premiere a season of the series.

Answer: Unification, Part 1

Airing near the beginning portion of the fifth season following "The Game", the "Unification" two-parter was the first to not be split into a season-ending cliffhanger and a premiere the next season after. The famous 'I am Locutus of Borg' speech served as the cliffhanger to the third season conclusion, "The Best Of Worlds, Part 1", with the second part serving as the fourth season premiere.

Although "Birthright, Part 1" did not conclude the sixth season (that distinction belongs to "Descent, Part 1"), it aired much later than the fourth season "Unification, Part 1", so it cannot qualify as the correct answer.

The same holds true for "Gambit, Part 1", which aired shortly into the series' seventh and final season following "Interface", "Liaisons" and "Descent, Part 2".
7. Picard is violently stabbed with a dagger while in crew quarters, but his attacker visits him and speaks to him later when he's recovering in sickbay.

Answer: Suddenly Human

The Human boy named Jono, whom Picard had attempted to become a father figure to after being rescued from the Talarian ship, is standing silently over a sleeping Picard in the captain's quarters when rage and anger take control of him, a dagger equipped in his hand soon being forcefully thrust down into the captain's chest.

It's revealed later, while Picard is recovering from the attack in sickbay, that Jono performed the criminal act when memories of his Talarian 'father', who claimed ownership of him, returned to the forefront of his mind, despite the clear evidence that his real Human mother and Human father had both died years ago in a war with the hostile aliens.

In "Redemption, Part 2", with all of the Klingon proceedings surrounding Gowron's installation as leader of the empire, Worf's temporary relinquishing of his Starfleet commission, and the Klingons on the brink of both a potential civil war and declaring war against the Federation, Picard somehow manages to avoid the sharp edge of a bloody dagger.

The only two individuals who feel the pain of any kind of knife in the entire two-parter is Worf, when his hand is cut while being bestowed with his family's name again at the hands of Gowron at the Great Hall, and the Klingon that challenges Worf on Kurn's ship, who gets stabbed by some of Kurn's own men when Worf tries but fails to make peace. In "Who Watches The Watchers?", Picard does not get stabbed with a dagger; he does get shot in the chest by an arrow fired by one of the Mintakans who fears what his people call 'The Picard' and believe to be a god is really nothing but falsehood. Then in "Genesis", Picard does get physically attacked by a de-evolved Riker upon entering his ready room with Data, but he is never stabbed with a dagger at any point in this episode.
8. Riker is walking through a corridor onboard the Enterprise when he is suddenly snared around his neck by an alien contraption that was meant to capture an alien of a different species.

Answer: Lonely Among Us

The two feuding groups of alien delegates--the beast-looking Anticans and the lizard-looking Selay (both of these groups made for some nice comedy in this episode)--continue to demonstrate their dislike for each other after being brought aboard the Enterprise. During one scene, Riker is walking through a darkened corridor when he is suddenly noosed around the neck by a rather crude, fish net-looking contraption extended outward through a doorway by one of the Selay delegates who admits to have wanted to capture one of the Anticians instead.

In "First Contact", Riker does find himself 'snared' in a different manner when he is physically subdued by the Malcorian medical staff during his attempted escape from the hospital, but there isn't an actual contraption used to noose him around the neck to prevent that escape.

In "Manhunt", although Riker does find himself temporarily in the clutches of a desperate Lwaxana Troi looking to find the perfect beau to wed, there isn't any kind of contraption that captures him by the neck.

Then in "The Vengeance Factor", there were no kind of contraptions by the Gatherers that Riker found himself temporarily snagged in.
9. Data falls flat onto his back while on the bridge when an alien entity hovering in orbit of a planet communicates to him directly.

Answer: Justice

At one point of this episode, the non-humanoid 'transparent' entity referred to as 'God' by the aliens called the Edo appears on the bridge in the form of an orb of energy to communicate to Picard and the crew. In the tense moment that follows, the orb hovers over to Data and touches the android's head, which results in Data being knocked flat onto his back and rendered unconscious.

When he comes to, it's revealed that Data had in fact received direct communication from the mysterious 'God' entity, which aids Picard and the crew in coming to eventual resolution with the Edo's strict code of laws.

In "Evolution", there are no alien lifeforms in orbit of a planet encountered by the crew; there are only the nanite lifeforms that have invaded the ship's circuitry, which leads to Data having to interface with the computer in order to communicate to the nanites directly.

In "Clues", the mysterious Paxans did communicate to Data--as well as to the rest of the bridge crew--directly through a possessed Counselor Troi during the flashback sequences where it's revealed how the crew ended up in their predicament, but Data never succumbs to falling onto his back as a result of the crew's encounter with the aliens.

Then in "Phantasms", besides the opening dream sequence where he is attacked by the workers representing the alien organisms, then another scene where he is going to bed in his quarters, there is never an instance when Data falls onto his back as a result of those organisms hovering in orbit of any planet.
10. Ferengi hold a member of the Enterprise crew captive, in some form or another, in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: The Price

In "The Battle", the mind-altering sphere controlled by the Ferengi named DaiMon Bok is used to force Picard to temporarily remain imprisoned on and to take command of his former starship, the U.S.S. Stargazer. In "Captain's Holiday", Picard again is held captive--twice with a hand-held weapon trained on him--by the Ferengi named Sovak when he and Vash are in search of the 27th century Tox Uhtat artifact allegedly hidden somewhere on Risa.

Then in "Rascals", the Ferengi board the Enterprise and train weapons on the entire crew, holding everyone hostage until the adolescent Picard, Guinan, Keiko, and Ensign Ro (along with Alexander) team up to mount a playful resistance and regain control of the ship. So that leaves "The Price" as the correct answer. With several interested parties negotiating for control of the Barzan Wormhole, the Ferengi did conspire with Devinoni Ral in an attempt to manipulate the proceedings, but holding crewmembers captive, which surely would have forfeited their bid for control of the wormhole, was certainly not one of the things that the ear-lobed aliens had on their scheming agenda this time.
