Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On what planet was the organic technology found?

Answer: Ikarra VII

The Ikarrans are a dead race. They were killed by the technology they created to protect them from invasion. The planet is now serving as an archeological dig for IPX.
2. What event has the ISN reporter been sent to cover on Babylon 5?

Answer: 2nd anniversary of B5 going online

B5's second anniversary is a big deal since no expected it to last this long. The first three were blown up before completion, and number four disappeared shortly after going online. The first anniversary was being celebrated in the pilot episode "The Gathering."
3. Whose cargo was being searched when the customs agent was killed?

Answer: Nelson Drake

Nelson Drake's cargo included the Ikarran technology. All organic substances brought onto the station have to be quarantined for a period of time. Nelson killed the customs agent since he knew that the artifacts would not pass inspection.
4. What piece of literary science fiction is the following quote referring to: "There's a Martian war machine outside, and it wants to speak to you about the common cold."

Answer: "The War of the Worlds"

In "The War of the Worlds," by H.G. Wells, Earth is invaded by what they assume are Martians. The local authorities and military are unable to stop them, and it appears they will succeed in taking over the Earth. However, in the end the Martians all die from exposure to Earth bacteria that their immune system could not handle.
5. What organization sponsored Dr. Hendrick's archeological dig?

Answer: Interplanetary Expeditions

We learn in this episode that IPX is a front for a bio-weapons company on Earth. This is especially important for later episodes, especially in seasons two and three (we learn that the expedition to Z'ha'dum that resulted in the destruction of the Icarus was sponsored by IPX).
6. How many times was Garibaldi fired for personal problems before Sinclair had him assigned to Babylon 5?

Answer: 5

We already knew that Gariabaldi was unsure that he was the right person for the job, but that Sinclair specifically asked for him ("The Gathering"). This is from Garibaldi's interview with the ISN reporter. She says: "I've come across several rumors surrounding your record prior to Babylon 5 that you were fired five times for unspecified personal problems and that this is your last chance to make good."
7. What does Nelson say before firing on Franklin in MedLab?

Answer: "Protect."

The Ikarran warriors are a blend of flesh and technology programmed to protect their masters from invaders. Their programming eventually resulted in the extinction of life from Ikarra VII. This is from Franklin's explanation to Sinclair: "So to prevent them from being confused by any misleading instructions from the enemy, they hardwired the machine half of the weapons not to respond to anyone who wasn't pure Ikarran.

There's one problem, Commander. How do you define a pure Ikarran, or a pure human? No one is pure. No one."
8. What is the name of the researcher that the brain patterns of the organic weapon were created from?

Answer: Tumar

Since weapons have been unable to stop Nelson, Sinclair decides that they need to talk him out of continuing to fight. Sinclair talks to Nelson, whose personality and memories are that of Tumar, the man they found had programmed the bodyguards. Sinclair manages to convince 'Tumar' that they did indeed kill their masters and that they have failed in their mission.
9. The Ikarrans refer to one of their deities as the "Great Maker." What other race present on Babylon 5 also makes use of this name?

Answer: Centauri

This little tidbit could be a link between many of the races and their origins, or it could be a coincidence. Either way, Londo has called upon the 'Great Maker' in frustration several times throughout the series.
10. Finish the quote: "The last time I gave an interview they told me to just relax and say what I really felt. Ten minutes after the broadcast I got transferred to an outpost so far off the starmaps you couldn't find it with a(n) _______ _______ and a(n) _______ _______."

Answer: hunting dog, ouiji board

Sinclair says this while explaining why he doesn't want to have an interview with the ISN reporter. We never find out what the above mentioned interview was about, but Sinclair's responses were probably not too well liked by EarthForce. Maybe it had to do with the Earth-Minbari War or the Mars Food Riots.
11. What is the name of the ISN reporter?

Answer: Mary Ann Cramer

Dan Randal was the reporter in the episode "The Illusion of Truth." Cynthia Torqueman was in "And Now For a Word." Maggie Egan played the ISN anchor seen in many episodes before Clark's declaration of martial law and returned to the air in "Endgame."
12. Who said the following quote: "Nothing in his personnel jacket to suggest a heart condition."

Answer: Garibaldi

Franklin, Sinclair and Garibaldi are discussing the death of the customs agent in MedLab. Franklin mentions that it appears he died of a heart attack. Garibaldi responds with the above line and Franklin says: "Yes, and exactly which medical school did you attend, Mr. Garibaldi?"
13. Who said the following quote: "If you need me, I'll be over there, getting drunk with the rest of the aliens."

Answer: Ivanova

This is a classic Ivanova quote that she says to Dr. Franklin. And I daresay she probably needs it after all the havoc created on the station by Nelson.
14. To whom was the following quote spoken: "Don't. You're too young to experience that much pain."

Answer: ISN reporter

Just another subtle Ivanova threat, this time to Mary Ann Cramer.
15. Which of the following people did Sinclair not mention during his interview with the ISN reporter?

Answer: Aristotle

Here is the full quote: Mary Ann Cramer: "Is it worth it? Should we just pull back, forget the whole thing as a bad idea and take care of our own problems at home?" Sinclair: "No. We have to stay here and there's a simple reason why. Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out.

When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe and Lao-Tzu and Einstein and Morobuto and Buddy Holly and Aristophenes...and all of this...all of this was for nothing unless we go to the stars."
