At the bridge, The Bookworm hid behind a van when he spoke through his walkie talkie, asking for Printer's Devil to come in and talk to him. Printer's Devil heard The Bookworm ask him to execute chapter one, which he did. Printer's Devil then shot Commissioner Gordon and he was seen tumbling over the side of the bridge. Later on in the episode, Commissioner Gordon entered his office and mentioned that he was not at the bridge's dedication.

It was revealed that the person at the bridge was an imposter of Commissioner Gordon's.

Batman and Robin made their way to Gotham City Police Headquarters and Lydia Limpet, one of The Bookworm's cohorts, saw the Batmobile from around the corner of a building. She walked over to the car and dropped a copy of the book "For Whom the Bell Tolls" on the passenger seat. The book then exploded in the Batmobile.
