Richard, Kate and Roy did extensive research on the crime Cynthia caused decades ago and wanted to locate anyone who survived the ordeal. They found one such person named Sam Pike by locating his current address. Both spoke with Sam and his wife, the latter indicating that the settlement they received did not cover all of Sam's medical expenses.

In one scene, Richard mentioned one key response by the authorities in the wake of this bombing: The FBI immediately arrested Jared Swanstorm in connection with Cynthia's terrorist act. Richard and Kate tracked Jared down to ask him for more details from that day. Jared claimed that he constructed the bomb Cynthia set off and her complaining to him about it going off prematurely.
