Answer: Crossing a bridge

Doakes spots a man carrying a bag of groceries and yells at him to stop. Being the bad guy that he is, he drops his grocery bag and runs off, with Doakes in pursuit.

They run under the bridge and gunfire is exchanged.

Interestingly, during the entire length of the bridge scene, which involves crossing more than half the length of the bridge, stopping, doing a three point turn, driving back, stopping and then getting out of the car - not one other vehicle is seen on the bridge. Not very likely given the amount of traffic usually shown in Miami during the series. Bridge closed for filming, anybody?

Answer: Sword fight

"Thank God for showers. Private time to think. Harder to come by now that I'm in a real relationship" thinks Dexter as he luxuriates under the water. His peace is shattered by Rita joining him in the shower and the subsequent interruption of Cody insisting on getting into the bathroom: "I gotta pee".

As Cody enters he sees the scar on Dexter and asks: "Cool, how'd you get that ugly scar?" Dexter replies: "Sword fight. I won". Aster than barges in looking for a hairbrush and notes: "Wow, neat scar".

Dexter excuses himself from the bathroom and stops outside with a distinct what-have-I-let-myself-in-for look on his face!

Answer: Dexter questions Doakes' version of events

Why? Why does Doakes ever get upset with Dexter? The man needs no reason! However, in this case, Doakes explains to LaGuerta that: "He took a shot at me. I took cover, and returned fire from that corner".

Dexter, who approaches as the conversation is taking place, says: "No, not from there". Dexter explains: "If you shot him from right there, then the blood spatter would go in that direction, but look at the pattern". Doakes replies: "Are you questioning me? 'Cause I gotta lotta questions for you".

Angel intervenes: "Whoa whoa whoa, the man's just doing what he's supposed to do". Doakes, true to character, replies with: "The man's a [deleted] creep job".

After Doakes and LaGuerta leave, Dexter says to Angel: "Sorry about that, but I didn't invent physics".

Answer: News of the death of his father

The letter is delivered to Dexter but Debra takes it from him and opens it. Dexter: "You know it's a federal offence to read someone else's mail?" Debra reads the letter anyway: "We regret to inform you of the death of your father? Dad died ten years ago".

Dexter reads on and says: "This isn't about Harry. Joseph Driscoll of Dade City, Florida names his son Dexter Morgan of Miami - as his executor. It's a will".

After some conversation where Debra reminds Dexter that she is his only next-of-kin, Dexter reads on: "Oh, and I inherited a house".

Answer: Debra and Rudy

Dexter and Rita are looking through Joe's collection of bowling trophies and photos when the doorbell rings. Debra is at the door with Rudy in tow. This does not thrill Dexter as Debra had been trying to arrange a meeting between Dexter and her "new boyfriend". To quote Dexter: "You like using the B word a lot".

Rudy hugs Dexter and says "I've waited a long time to meet you". The relevance of this statement becomes obvious later in the series so I am not about to spoil it for you here.

Answer: Smoking

By the time Dr Pittman starts theorizing, it is clear Dexter has already formed his own view as to the cause of Joe's death.

Dexter has a flashback to when he was a young boy, riding in his father's car, and the spider web tattoo on his elbow is clear - the same tattoo on Joe's elbow.

When the Doctor is out of the room giving him some privacy, Dexter withdraws some blood from Joe's corpse. He then rings Masuka from the toilet and asks him to do a tox screen on two blood samples he will send to him - Joe's and Dexter's. Masuka replies: "Hey, Romeo, if this is your idea of a romantic weekend, you're gonna be a bachelor for a very long time".

If you get a chance to view this episode, marvel at how the clock in the morgue changes time backwards and forwards between scenes!

Answer: "Slow Ride" - Foghat

You didn't really think the the show's producers would have been so insensitive as to play "Sheer Heart Attack" in a scene where they are packing the belongings of a person that had a heart attack, do you? No, leave that to me to suggest!

Rita finds a collection of badges from Narcotics Anonymous, and Debra declares: "The guy was a loser, after all. Who else owns this many bowling balls?"

Rudy says: "Well, Joe said no to the drugs, but not his rock and roll. Nothing in his collection post-1980. Gotta love a purist". Foghat then starts to play. Debra jumps on the couch and Rudy starts playing air guitar. All Dexter can manage to do is say: "Oh good. Dancing".

Answer: AB-

This gem of information is revealed when Dexter is having a flashback to when he was a boy and impaled himself on a wrought iron fence post.

At the hospital Dexter witnesses his parents having an animated discussion, presumably about being able to obtain the correct type of blood needed for Dexter's operation.

Later, as Dexter is being wheeled toward the operating theater, one of the hospital assistants says to him: "Don't you worry, little man. You're not going to feel a thing". Dexter: "I thought there was a problem, you know, with the blood?" The hospital assistant replies: "Your dad fixed it. You see, your dad knew someone with blood just like yours".

Answer: Positive

Dexter is taking some rubbish out to the bins when his phone rings. Debra answers it by saying: "Morgan here". Vince Masuka is on the other end, sucking on a lollipop, and says: "Wait! Did I call the hot Morgan by mistake? Freudian. My sub-conscious has been exposed".

Debra responds: "Well, zip it up and tell me what's going on". Debra thinks it is in regard to the Doakes shooting, but it is the DNA test.

Cut to the street where Debra questions Dexter on why he didn't trust his father (Harry, who had said that Dexter's biological father had dies some years earlier). Debra informs Dexter the DNA was a match: "Joe Driscoll was your bio dad".

Answer: Clean the leaves out of her gutters

"Are you my new neighbors?" comes the frail voice from across the road. Dexter explains they are just there to clean up some things for the estate. "So sad about Mr Driscoll. He was only 60 you know. Too young for a heart attack. He used to clean my gutters every fall. I don't know what I'm gonna do now. Unless you know how to clean gutters".

Author's note to Dexter: I had a little old lady neighbor like this. Take my advice, walk away and never look back!

Answer: In the bowling alley parking lot

Rudy and Dexter agree that the bowling alley would be a fitting place to scatter Joe's ashes, given that he was such an avid bowler.

Answer: He finds a card that young Dexter drew for Joe

When looking through a shoebox of Joe's documents, Dexter finds a card that he drew when he was recovering from his operation, thanking the donor.

In a flashback scene, his father promises Dexter: "I will make sure it finds him".

Answer: The cable repair man

As Rudy and Debra are leaving, the little old lady appears from behind her front door (you were left with the impression she was always just behind the door!). She looks at Rudy and says to herself: "Cable repair man".

Rudy takes one look at her and hurries his imminent departure. "Wait! Wait! No, no. Don't go. Please - I want to ask you something." Rudy speeds off. Dexter and Rita are getting into their car and start backing out of the driveway.

"Woo-hoo! The cable repair man, did he say anything about my TV antenna?" Dexter looks back to see the lady waving (trying to get his attention). Dexter thinks she is waving goodbye so he gives her a friendly wave back and leaves.

This is relevant because earlier, Dexter had asked her if Joe had received any visitors in the week before he had dies. The lady had mentioned that a cable repair man had been around. Clearly, the lady believes the cable repair man and Rudy to be one and the same...

Answer: A baseball bat

Paul arrives drunk in the middle of the night. Rita, concerned for her children, says to Paul: "I didn't realize I had been hurting you so much. But I can make it up to you. Let me try".

She leads Paul to the bedroom where he starts getting violent. When he is distracted she takes a baseball bat from under the bed and knocks him into left field.

She then grabs the kids and the car and leaves him bleeding on the floor.

Answer: Have You Ever Seen The Rain?

The closing scenes open with Dexter putting a CCR record on the turntable - presumably one of Joe's records, and then "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" starts to play in the background.

He then reviews the card he created for Joe.

The episode ends ominously with a cable repair guy being let into the little old lady's house...and the cable repair guy is...Rudy.
