Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What milestone did the show celebrate in January of 1990?

Answer: 20th Anniversary

In January of 1990, "AMC" celebrated its 20th year on the air since it debuted on January 5th, 1970. There were five remaining original cast members that had been on since day one: Mary Fickett (Ruth Martin), Frances Heflin (Mona Kane), Susan Lucci (Erica Kane), Ray MacDonnell (Joe Martin), and Ruth Warrick (Phoebe Wallingford).

There was a primetime special to commemorate the show's 20th anniversary that featured interviews with all five original cast members.
2. Who arrived, on Trevor Dillon's doorstep, on Thanksgiving of 1990?

Answer: Hayley Vaughn

Trevor was shocked when he saw his niece, Hayley Vaughn, on his doorstep on Thanksgiving Day in 1990. Hayley had run away from home to get away from her mother, Arlene Vaughn (Trevor's sister). Hayley caused a lot of trouble, when she first came to town, such as putting bubble bath into the fountain at the Pine Valley Country Club. She eventually changed her ways.
3. Which "AMC" villain, from the 1970s, returned in 1990?

Answer: Billy Clyde Tuggle

The show's Executive Producer at the time, Felicia Minei Behr, decided to bring back the legendary Billy Clyde Tuggle in 1990. Matthew Cowles reprised his role as the former pimp that buried his wife, Estelle, alive many years ago. When Tuggle returned to town, he became obsessed with Dixie Cooney and tried hard to make her his bride (he failed). Tuggle died when he was caught in an explosion and his body was found. Tuggle was one of the show's most popular villains.
4. Were Adam and Erica ever husband and wife in 1990?

Answer: Yes

This is a tricky question since we were to have believed that Adam and Erica officially divorced in the mid 1980s. However, Erica found out, the following year (1991), that she was still legally married to Adam since Adam had Stuart pose as him at the divorce proceedings.

This made Erica's two marriages to Travis Montgomery and Adam's marriages to Natalie Marlowe, Dixie Cooney, and Brooke English invalid. Adam and Erica eventually divorced and it was for real.
5. Which major, long running, actress left the show in 1990?

Answer: Debbi Morgan

Morgan, who originated the role of Angie Baxter (later known as Angie Hubbard since she married Jesse Hubbard) in 1982, left the show in 1990. It was reported that Morgan was dissatisfied with the direction the show planned to take Angie and decided to leave when her contract expired.

The show recast the role of Angie with Sandra Quarterman but Quarterman was only in the role for a year since the fans disliked her acting. Morgan reprised her role of Angie on the ABC soap opera, "Loving", from 1993 to 1995 and on the ABC soap opera, "The City", from 1995 to 1997. "Loving" was cancelled in 1995 and "The City" was cancelled in 1997.
6. Which couple almost remarried in 1990?

Answer: Tad Martin and Dixie Cooney

Tad and Dixie wed, for the first time, in late 1989 but their marriage was short lived since Dixie divorced him when Loretta Rutherford claimed she and Tad had an affair. However, Dixie realized that Palmer paid Loretta to break her and Tad up so she and Tad reunited and planned to wed again. On the day of their second wedding, Tad confronted Billy Clyde Tuggle and was presumed dead after a bomb exploded (to learn more about Tuggle's fate, see the "Interesting Info" section for question three).
7. Which major Daytime Emmy did "AMC" win in 1990?

Answer: Outstanding Supporting Actress (Julia Barr as Brooke)

Julia Barr won her first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1990 for her role as Brooke English. Barr won over tapes she submitted regarding Brooke's reaction to her daughter's death (Laura Cudahy). "AMC" also won an Emmy, in 1990, for Outstanding Juvenile Female for Cady McClain, who portrayed Dixie Cooney.

The Outstanding Juvenile Female category was eventually renamed Outstanding Younger Lead Actress.
8. Which of these storylines did NOT take place in 1990?

Answer: Natalie in the well

All of the above stories happened, in 1990, except for Natalie being stuck in the well. Natalie was imprisoned in the well during the Summer of 1991 when her sister, Janet Green, shoved her down one and left her there to die so she could take over Natalie's life. Natalie was eventually rescued from the well. Megan McTavish wrote this storyline.
9. Was Emily Ann Sago on "AMC" in 1990?

Answer: Yes

Emily Ann Sago was on "AMC" from 1988 to 1992 so she was in Pine Valley in the year of 1990. Emily Ann was the biological daughter of Billy Clyde and Estelle Tuggle but she was adopted by Donna Beck and Benny Sago. Emily Ann married Joey Martin (Joey later went by the name "Jake") and she found out about her biological parents and she slowly began to unravel. Joey divorced Emily Ann and, in 1992, she left Pine Valley to receive treatment at a psychiatric hospital out of town.
10. In 1990, Tad impregnated which woman?

Answer: Brooke English

Dixie broke up with Tad, in 1990, because she believed Loretta Rutherford's claim that Tad slept with her. A heartbroken Tad sought comfort with Brooke English and they made love. Dixie found out about Tad's one night stand with Brooke and, despite this, she still found it in her heart to forgive him and reunite with him.

After Tad was presumed dead (see "Interesting Info" section for question six for more), Brooke found out that she was pregnant with his child as a result of their earlier one night stand. Brooke, eventually, gave birth to her and Tad's son, James "Jamie" Martin, the child they conceived during their one night stand in 1990.
