At the very beginning of the episode, someone jumped from a helicopter and he started to hear sounds from within the trees of the island. He got panicked and got out his gun. Just then, Jack and Kate appeared and Jack asked the guy who he was. He introduced himself as Dan Faraday and said he was there to rescue them all from the island.

Dan spoke to Kate and Jack, about the rescue, and he mentioned there were four people, including him, on the helicopter. Kate asked Dan what happened to the other three and Dan said he had no idea and perhaps some of them did not get out before the helicopter crashed. Dan mentioned that, when he jumped out of the helicopter, he lost his phone but Kate assured him they had a phone for him.

After the opening credits, Sawyer and Locke were seen walking and Sawyer asked Locke why he was going east when they were going to the barracks, which were south. Locke mentioned that they were going on a detour to a cabin that he (Locke) wished to see. Hurley was with them and he told Locke he thought the cabin was the other way but Locke said he was thinking of the airplane cabin and the cabin Locke wanted to see was another one.

When we first saw Sayid, in this episode, he was sitting along the beach and Juliet approached him and said Jack was not back. Sayid just told her to be patient since it was a big island and that Jack would be there shortly. Sayid noted that he heard a rescue freighter was supposed to approach the island, real soon, and rescue them. Juliet commented that Sayid had a lot of spirit in being optimistic for a rescue.

Jack, Dan, and Kate were walking through the island and came upon someone who appeared to be dead. Kate asked him if he was alright and Miles got up and held Jack and Kate at gunpoint. Miles entered some woman's house and she told him to go to a room upstairs at the end of a hall. Miles reminded the woman that she had to pay him $200 before he could inspect her house.
