Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Sam give to him before Jon began his journey with Tormund?

Answer: Dragonglass

Sam: "Safe travels Lord Commander." Then Sam handed Jon a bag that contained the dragonglass.

Sam: "It's dragonglass. It's what I used to kill the White Walker. I hope you don't need them."

Jon: "Me too." Then they hugged.
2. Who died in this episode?

Answer: Maester Aemon

Maester Aemon was very old, somewhere near the century mark, and he lay dying in this episode. Sam and Gilly watched over him, and Aemon spoke of his brother Egg (Aegon) whom he remembered fondly. Sam told Gilly that Aegon had become king. He was, in fact, the grandfather of Daenerys. Aemon warned Gilly to "get him south before it was too late". If he meant just her son, or both Sam and the baby, it was unclear to me. Later, Sam gave the eulogy at Aemon's funeral.
3. Sansa sought help from Theon. What item did she give him to use to signal her need for help?

Answer: Candle

Theon: "You're his wife now. Do what he says. Do what he says or he'll hurt you."

Sansa: "He already hurts me every night. All day I'm locked in this room and every night he comes. It can't be any worse."

Theon: "It can. It can always be worse." Sansa then implored him to help her. She told him to take a candle to the broken tower and light it, and friends would come to her aid. He took the candle straight to Ramsay. So, Ramsay killed one of her allies.
4. Who said, "if we march back to Castle Black, we winter at Castle Black"?

Answer: Stannis

Davos was trying to impress upon Stannis the dangers of battle during the cold weather. He said "this isn't our time". But, Stannis knew all of the dangers of quitting now. He'd already fled King's Landing and would not be retreating again.

Stannis: "Winter is coming. Those aren't just the Stark words. That's a fact. If we march back to Castle Black, we winter at Castle Black. And, who can say how many years this winter will last?"
5. Melisandre tried to talk Stannis into sacrificing his own daughter.

Answer: True

After his talk with Davos, Stannis told Melisandre that he'd trusted her visions and prophecies for years. She told him that despite what they saw coming, sometimes a sacrifice had to be made in order to achieve the goal.

Melisandre said she had seen the fall of Winterfell: "But, sometimes sacrifices must be made to ensure victory. I have shown you the power of king's blood, the usurper Robb Stark, the usurper Joffrey Baratheon." Stannis reminded her that they did not have Robert's son with them.

Melisandre: "No, we have someone better, and your blood runs through her veins."
At that moment, Stannis was appalled at the idea. He suggested they get her blood through leeches, but Melisandre said that would not be good enough.
6. Malko sold Jorah for how many gold honors?

Answer: 20

Malko spun a tale of truth and lies about Jorah's accomplishments as a warrior. He opened his bidding at 12 gold honors, but Jorah sold for 20. As Jorah was led off by his new owner, Tyrion spoke up and said the man had to buy him as well. He told the man that he and Jorah were a team and claimed to be a great fighter also.

He then demonstrated how well he could fight by taking down the man holding his chain. The slave owner agreed to take Tyrion and paid Malko an unknown amount for him.
7. Who told Daenerys that she should marry him instead of Hizdahr?

Answer: Daario

The pair had been lovers for awhile, and he seemed to be a bit jealous at the idea of her marrying one of the men of Meereen's great families. She told him she had to marry Hizdahr in order to ensure that Meereen would fight on her side. She told Daario she could not marry him, and he told her that she was the only person in Meereen who was not free.
8. Who came to the High Sparrow to try and free Loras and Margaery?

Answer: Olenna

She told him she could smell a fraud from a mile away, insinuating he was one himself. He reminded her that the siblings had sworn sacred vows and lied and that "the father judges us all".
9. Tyene Sand told Bronn that her dagger had been coated in a special ointment when she cut him. What did she say was it was known as?

Answer: The Long Farewell

First she teased him with her body, from an entire cell away, and then informed him he was going to die. She said it would take a while, but one drop would kill him. After he agreed with her that she was the most beautiful woman in the world, she tossed him the antidote to the poison.

Rosabell Laurenti Sellers played Tyene. Avada Kedavra is the killing curse from the "Harry Potter" franchise.
10. At the end of the episode, Cersei was imprisoned by the High Sparrow.

Answer: True

Cersei had gone to visit Margaery in her cell. She spoke to her daughter-in-law, the queen, with fake sugary sweetness. There to gloat, Cersei felt she'd won the battle for Tommen (and King's Landing) by having the queen imprisoned by the Sparrows. Fortunately, Lancel Lannister had a plethora of information about his wicked family, which led to Cersei being imprisoned after leaving the queen's cell. She promised her jailors that her face would be the last thing they saw before they died. Knowing Cersei, I have no doubt about that. But, it was a delicious moment long in the making to watch her get what she had coming to her.
