Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I've played an alien named Isabel and a doctor named Isobel. One of them lived in Roswell (1999) and the other in Seattle (2005).

Answer: Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl's career took off after she accepted the part of Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy" in 2005. She left the series in 2010 and starred in quite a few romantic comedies before taking a serious role on "State of Affairs". "Roswell" lasted for three seasons and was created by Jason Katims. Katims went on to create "Friday Night Lights" and "Parenthood" for television.

Jennifer Aniston famously played Rachel Green on "Friends" and Emilia Clarke has played Daenerys on "Game of Thrones".
2. Once upon a time I woke up a mobster's wife in New Jersey. When that "fairytale" ended I became a politician from Vermont named C.C. and eventually a drug addicted nurse name Jackie.

Answer: Edie Falco

Edie played Carmela Soprano on "The Sopranos" for six seasons. She was the wife of mobster Tony Soprano, played by the late great James Gandolfini. She went on to have a small role on "30 Rock" as Celeste "C.C." Cunningham. She followed those roles up with Jackie Peyton, the head nurse of a New York City emergency room. "Nurse Jackie" aired seven seasons, and Edie won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2010.

Amy Poehler had an extremely successful run on "Saturday Night Live" before she moved onto another hit series called "Parks and Recreation". Ellen Pompeo played the title character of CBS's hit "Grey's Anatomy".
3. From the honor of being the first vampire seen on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" to being the spouse of a serial killer, I am also a former competitive figure skater. I'm mostly seen as a blonde, have been known to carry a tune, and could be seen as the mayor of Defiance, for a time.

Answer: Julie Benz

She originally auditioned for the part of Buffy Summers, but lost to Sarah Michelle Gellar. Julie instead played Darla, the first vampire ever seen on "Buffy", for a few episodes of season one. She went on to have a two year arc on its spin-off "Angel". It was nice to see her again when she appeared as the girlfriend, and later wife, of Dexter Morgan on the Showtime series "Dexter". She and her siblings were competitive figure skaters, but her career ended when she was injured as a teen. In 2013, she began playing the part of Amanda Rosewood on the Syfy series "Defiance".

Claire Danes got her start on the series "My So Called Life", but became truly successful in movies. She landed another juicy TV part in 2011 on "Homeland", about a CIA operative named Carrie.
4. I was once a cop on an episode of "Sex and the City" before becoming a tenacious and dedicated surgeon named Miranda Bailey. My character was once known as "The Nazi" to her interns and delivered her baby during a bomb scare at then Seattle Grace Hospital.

Answer: Chandra Wilson

Seattle Grace later became Seattle Grace Mercy West, and ended up as Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital at the end of season nine. The last name was in honor of Lexi Grey and Mark Sloan, who died as a result of a plane crash. Miranda Bailey led the interns through their paces and watched as they became surgeons. Bailey had her son Tuck during a bomb scare.

Chandra Wilson has also directed a dozen episodes of the series and will probably direct more in time. Laurie Metcalf may be most popular as Jackie Harris, the sister of Roseanne on "Roseanne", and Kerry Washington was shot into the spotlight on the series "Scandal" as fixer (Gladiator) Olivia Pope.
5. From 1998 until 2004 I played a wealthy on again off again boyfriend simply known as Mr. Big. In fact, no one learned my character's real name was John until the final episode of that series. Since then, I have played a detective named Mike and an adulterous Illinois governor named Peter.

Answer: Chris Noth

Chris reprised his role as Mr. Big (John James Preston) for two feature film spin-offs of "Sex and the City". Mr. Big had much relationship ambiguity when it came to Carrie Bradshaw, but the pair married at the end of the first film. Noth spent 36 episodes as Detective Mike Logan on the series "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" before starring as scandalous husband/governor Peter Florrick on "The Good Wife".

Kyle Chandler played the fair and honest Coach Taylor on the series "Friday Night Lights" and went on to play Detective John Rayburn on the Netflix series "Bloodline". Scott Foley was on both Shonda Rhimes' series "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal", but rose to fame on the 1990s series "Felicity".
6. Once I was a drug trafficker named Guillermo Garcia Gomez who made Nancy Botwin do the 'Brick Dance', later I was a nurse named Angel Garcia, and in possibly the most high profile role of all of these, a trained assassin named Huck.

Answer: Guillermo Diaz

Diaz played drug thug Guillermo on "Weeds" in seasons 2-6. He played a gay male nurse on "Mercy", which he said was more like his true personality. Diaz has been open about being gay throughout his career, despite some higher-ups who wanted him to be quieter about it. In 2012 he began his portrayal of Huck, a military man forced into the life of an assassin for the secret organization B613 on the ABC series "Scandal". He was nominated for many different awards over the years as Huck, including an NAACP Image Award and an Imagen Award.

William H. Macy, famous for both TV and film, began a memorable run as Frank Gallagher on the Showtime series "Shameless" in 2011. He and actress Felicity Huffman married in 1997.
7. My career has spanned the decades. Hopping back to 1992, I played a senatorial hopeful named Byron Douglas III and briefly won Whitley away from Dwayne. I went on to spend time briefly as Dr. Maxwell on "Mercy Point", Dr. Hamilton on "Smallville", then a scientist named Henry, and finally a duplicitous power monger named Eli/Rowan Pope.

Answer: Joe Morton

Rowan, Eli, Command, Papa Pope, whichever name he was addressed as, none touched the man. Who he really was remained mysterious as he played the ultimate villain on "Scandal". I remember first seeing him play Byron on "A Different World". It was near the end of the series, when Dwayne cheated on Whitley and Byron tried to sweep her off of her feet. She even walked down the isle to marry Byron, but Dwayne showed up and begged her not to do it in front of everyone. Then I saw him play the scientist behind Skynet (Miles Dyson) in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day". He has had many roles on TV and film, but I was entranced with him once more as Henry Deacon, scientist of all trades, on Syfy's "Eureka". It was a first for me to see him play a villain of such mastery as Command on "Scandal". In 2014 he won an NAACP Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on that show.

Ernie Hudson played big roles in the "Ghostbuster" film franchise of the 1980s, had a memorable role as Warden Glynn on the HBO series "Oz" and appeared in no less than 15 TV series between 2010-2015. James Pickens Jr. appeared on "Roseanne" back in the 1990s, but may be best known as Dr. Richard Webber on "Grey's Anatomy".
8. Over the years I went from a bit of a geeky high school freshman named Patty to an attorney named Jo Ann, and finally found myself an extremely popular shoe hoarding writer named Carrie Bradshaw.

Answer: Sarah Jessica Parker

Though "Square Pegs" lasted one season (1982-83), the part of Patty Greene was a memorable one for fans my age and a bit older. It was my first glimpse at Sarah Jessica Parker, with dark hair and glasses, but also funny and smart. I next saw her in "Footloose" along side Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer. Parker played the part of Jo Ann Harris for two seasons on the ABC legal drama "Equal Justice". Also in that cast was Joe Morton, another actor in this quiz. SJP, as fans like to call her, was on many TV shows and in many films before she landed the role she became famous for- Carrie Bradshaw. Carrie was a columnist and book author during her time on the HBO series "Sex and the City".

Mary Louise Parker has enjoyed a lot of success in films like "Fried Green Tomatoes", and in TV shows like "Weeds" and "The West Wing".
9. In 1982 I played a dance instructor at the fictional New York City High School for the Performing Arts, in 1991 I was a professor at Hillman College, and in 2011 I became Dr. Catherine Avery on "Grey's Anatomy". All the while, I was producing and directing behind the scenes of several TV series.

Answer: Debbie Allen

Debbie Allen had a smaller role in the film "Fame", but took on a main character spot in the TV series. It lasted from 1982-1987. And while she did have a small role on a few episodes of "A Different World", she basically saved the series from extinction as a producer and director starting in season two. She directed over 80 episodes of the show. In 2010, she directed her first episode of "Grey's Anatomy" before going on to become Dr. Catherine Avery in 2011.

Shonda Rhimes is the mastermind behind "Grey's Anatomy", "Private Practice", "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder".
10. Yes, yes, I did become a major movie star in the late 1990s and through the 2000s. But, I got my start on some pretty popular TV shows. I played George on "The Facts of Life", went to play the boss Booker Brooks at Wellman Plastics, a detective named Falconer on "Sisters" and ended up ridiculously famous after playing Dr. Doug Ross on "ER".

Answer: George Clooney

Both George and Booker were smaller roles, non-threatening types of sexy, on "The Facts of Life" and "Roseanne". In between all these parts, he had other TV and movie appearances. He was on an episode of "Friends", played Seth Gecko in "From Dusk Till Dawn", and Everett in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?". With his role as Dr. Ross on "ER", starting in 1994, Clooney played a much more complicated, and still sexy, role as a pediatrician. This dramatic role, which he kept steady for five seasons, led to a booming movie career. Since that time, he has won several awards, including Golden Globes and Oscars.

Vincent D'Onofrio had some early success in the films "Full Metal Jacket" and "Adventures in Babysitting". But, I really enjoyed him alongside Lily Taylor and Julia Roberts in "Mystic Pizza". He went on from there to play parts in "Men in Black" and "Law and Order: Criminal Intent". David Boreanaz starred on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Angel" and "Bones".
