Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although only a child, Charlotte Lux managed to save 4,022 people. With the help of Doctor Moon, which planet did Charlotte keep an eye on?

Answer: The Library

Charlotte Lux was a sick child who loved books. Unable to have a normal life, her grandfather installed her as the main computer in the artificial planet, known as the Library. As the computer, she was able to enter into any story. When the Vashta Nerada threatened all life in the Library, she sealed the planet and uploaded the 4,022 people onto the hard drive to rescue them. Only with the help of the Doctor and River Song, were the people downloaded and able to return to their regular lives. However, it was Charlotte who initially saved them.
2. The tenth Doctor and Rose met a group of intrepid scientists and explorers in "The Impossible Planet" including Ida Scott. What was Ida and her team set on discovering beneath the shadow of a black hole?

Answer: An incredible power source

According to the laws of physics, the impossible planet should have been swallowed up by the black hole. Only one power source emanating from the planet kept the planet beyond the hole's reach and allowed Ida Scott's team to land there. Human curiosity brought the team to discover that source despite all the dangers. Ida wondered "how could they not" come.

She and the Doctor bonded during a conversation about their personal faiths and beliefs as they faced the last hour of their lives.
3. Madame de Pompadour was the official mistress of the king of France. In the story of "The Girl in the Fireplace", the Doctor discovered a 51st century spaceship punching holes in time to her world. What were the clockwork robots after in pre-revolutionary France?

Answer: The Madame de Pompadour's head

The Doctor first met the Madame de Pompadour, also known as Reinette, when she was a little girl. Following the clockwork robots, the Doctor was able to see the other times of her life. The 51st century ship had broken down and the robots did not have the parts to fix the ship. First, they cannibalized the crew.

Then they needed just one more part, the head of Madame de Pompadour. However, the ship was 37 years old, and they believed that she needed to be 37 to be complete. The Doctor never knew why the robots were after her head in particular, but the last shot of the show is the name of the ship written on its side: Madame de Pompadour.
4. Despite having traveled with the Doctor to the end of the universe, River Song did not have the Doctor's trust in the two parter, "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead". Why was she forced to regain his trust?

Answer: He hadn't met her yet.

The Doctor came to the Library at River's request that she sent via the psychic paper. He was astonished to find that she had a journal filled with their adventures together as well as a sonic screwdriver that he had given her. She didn't gain his complete trust until she whispered his true name into his ear.

While the Doctor was then witness to her death, he did manage to save her by uploading her data ghost (a consciousness trapped in a communicator) into a computer hard drive.
5. With Martha to look after him, the Doctor was forced to become a human, forgetting his entire Time Lord self. During his time as the human, John Smith, he fell in love with Joan Redfern. What sign of respect did she receive from the Doctor?

Answer: An offer to travel with him in the TARDIS

Joan Redfern was a widow and the nurse at the school where John Smith acted as a school teacher. While John Smith truly believed he was human, he had much of the Doctor's loneliness and was happy to find love with Joan. It was at Joan's urging that made John a better person through the conflict going on around them.

She quietly supported his decision to return to being the Doctor, but she told the Doctor she considered John Smith the better man. As the Doctor faced his regeneration in the episode "End of Time Part II", he looked in on Joan's descendant, Verity Newman, to see if Joan was happy in the end.
6. During his time as a human, the Doctor hid his Time Lord consciousness inside a fob watch. Tim Latimer, a school boy, discovered and protected the watch. What gift did he receive from the Doctor?

Answer: The fob watch

Tim Latimer was a young student at the school, bullied by the older, bigger boys. He seemed to have some psychic ability and picked up the fob watch. Throughout the story, he consulted with the watch and eventually returned it to John Smith when it was time.

As a gift, the Doctor gave the watch back to Tim when it had finished its purpose. Later, Tim used the watch to save his life along with another former student during World War I. Further still into the future, as an old man Tim still had the watch.
7. When encountering the ghost-like Gelth, the Doctor and Rose met a famous author. Whose help did they need to keep the Gelth from overcoming the human race?

Answer: Charles Dickens

The Doctor was ecstatic to meet Dickens, telling the confused author that he was "his number one fan". He then had to explain what that he was not a cooling device. The Gelth first appeared as ghosts on that Christmas Eve in Cardiff. Their initial claims of peace turned out to be false, and it was Dickens who found the solution to defeating them and their ambitions of world domination.

The Doctor helped 'Charlie' discover a new lease on life that he had not learned all that there was to know.
8. Sally Sparrow was the star of "Blink" which barely had the Doctor or his companion, Martha. Forced to put the pieces together, which was NOT a clue for Sally?

Answer: A letter in a library book

Sally was initially clued in that something was not right when she found the Doctor's message behind some wallpaper in an old house. She and Kathy Nightingale attempted to discover the truth behind the mystery, but Kathy was touched by the weeping angels and sent back in time. Losing friends around her, Sally became determined to learn the truth. Kathy's brother, Larry, gave her a list of DVDs that had a hidden Easter egg message from the Doctor on it.

When Sally realized the list was all the DVDs she owned, she knew the message was for her.
9. When the Doctor met Jackson Lake, he was suffering from a sort of amnesia. Who did Jackson believe he was?

Answer: The Doctor

Jackson Lake actually suffered from amnesia after a traumatic incident with the cybermen. His wife was killed, and his son was kidnapped. He was exposed to the cybermen's information on the Doctor causing him to believe that he was the newest Doctor. He was accompanied by Rosita.

The Doctor aided Lake in learning his true identity and recovering his son. Prior to the episode's air date, many viewers believed that David Morissey, the actor who played Lake, would be succeeding Tennant as the Doctor. Matt Smith actually claimed the job.
10. Nancy was featured in one of my favorite two part stories, "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances". What was Nancy doing during World War II when the Doctor met her?

Answer: Feeding the homeless children

During the air raids, Nancy would scavenge the homes of more well-to-do Londoners to get food for the homeless children. Unfortunately a spooky child in a gas mask stalked the children. Nancy warned that one touch from the child would make you like him, which meant empty.

Although reserved, she was helpful to the Doctor, leading him to Doctor Constantine. She admitted to the Doctor that she had lost her brother in the air raids, which was why she helped the children.
