Question 5 of 10
5. Starbuck, eager to lead the attack on the Cylon base, attempted to get back into shape after her injury so she could handle herself in the cockpit. Commander Adama was to convince her otherwise. How was he able to accomplish this feat on an ever-stubborn Kara Thrace? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The fleet was short on fuel, and Laura Roslin held a press conference to tell the fleet of their plans to extract more, that is, if they could find any. In the middle of the affair, she had another vision, perhaps attributed to the Chamalla extract she was taking for her cancer. What did she see?

Answer: snakes

The president saw nearly a dozen snakes on her podium during her question and answer session. The visions made her behavior muddled and awkward, causing the reporters to give her strange looks.

Later, when talking with a priestess, Laura learned that her experience was similar to a prophecy written by Pythia: "serpents numbering two and ten."
2. Boomer and Crashdown were meanwhile in the process of locating Tylium ore in an asteroid field. The sensor went off, and once again, they had made a monumental discovery: one of the asteroids ahead was made of Tylium. But what problem was preventing them from extracting the much needed ore?

Answer: The Cylons already had a base and mining facility on the asteroid.

After the short-lived celebration, Boomer saw a formation of Cylon Raiders heading for them, so they scattered. It was really unfortunate that the only likely Tylium they were going to find was being processed and protected by the Cylons. When the information got back to Commander Adama, he decided that Galactica was going to take the asteroid by force.
3. To get some "serious out of the box thinking" for the attack on the Cylons, Commander Adama enlisted the help of what Galactica officer?

Answer: Kara Thrace

Kara was brought in on the op to present a different perspective on the attack. Instead of a by-the-book procedure, she offered a way to use the Cylons' patrols against them. Her plan was welcomed by Commander Adama and approved by the president.
4. Starbuck and Colonel Tigh looked to Dr. Gaius Baltar to figure where the staging tanks for the refined Tylium precursor were located. If hit, these tanks would create an explosion large enough to destroy the Cylon base. Why was Baltar so nervous when he pointed them out?

Answer: He was guessing wildly and knew nothing about Cylon refineries.

Baltar had asked the Six in his head for help, but she wouldn't give it to him. She, like him, apparently knew nothing of Cylon refineries. When Baltar finally pointed out a location on the surveillance map, it was a complete guess, and the mission depended on this vital piece of information.
5. Starbuck, eager to lead the attack on the Cylon base, attempted to get back into shape after her injury so she could handle herself in the cockpit. Commander Adama was to convince her otherwise. How was he able to accomplish this feat on an ever-stubborn Kara Thrace?

Answer: He proved to her she was not physically fit by testing her injured knee.

It was a tough realization, but Starbuck wasn't physically ready to get back into a cockpit. Her injured knee couldn't take the force needed to operate her Viper. Instead, she watched from the Galactica, learning a whole new lesson on the field of command.
6. What item did Commander Adama give his son for good luck before Lee's mission?

Answer: a lighter

Originally owned by Lee's grandfather, Joseph Adama, Bill Adama gave his son the lighter that had been passed down to him. Lee promised to bring it back (implying that he would survive the mission), and Adama said, "You better. [...] It's a good lighter."
7. The Cylons fell for the freighter decoy trick, and sent ALL of their fighters from their base to intercept them.

Answer: False

Even though the Cylons did send a good number of Raiders to scope out the three ships that had suddenly appeared to them, they had several reinforcements left back at the base. When Galactica sent its first wave of Vipers to wipe out the Cylon base, fifty Cylon Raiders were dispatched to intercept them. The Vipers were outnumbered five to one and suffered severe casualties as a result.
8. After the first wave to take out the base failed, and Galactica recalled the Vipers, what back-up plan did Starbuck and Commander Adama initiate?

Answer: They activated a squadron of Vipers planted on the decoy.

The hinges popped off one of the freighters to reveal several Vipers deploying to the Cylon base. The trick ships had provided them with not only a decoy, but a means to hold the Vipers once the Cylons sent their fighters back to attack Galactica. As Starbuck said, "The backdoor [was] open."
9. Apollo led his force of Vipers near the asteroid in order to destroy the staging tanks and blow up the base. Several of his pilots died in their attempts to launch their missiles. What did Apollo do to get within the base's defenses?

Answer: He took an alternate route through a narrow conveyor belt.

Apollo's feat was quite daring, considering there was no way to ensure that the conveyor belt led into the base. In the fashion of Starbuck, he took a risk and succeeded. The base was destroyed and the fleet would have enough fuel for two years.
10. It turned out that Baltar's information on the staging tanks was good. It had led to the utter destruction of the Cylon base. Coincidence or fate? According to the Six in his head, it was fate. Who did Gaius Baltar believe he was an instrument of?

Answer: God

"All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again." Six quoted Pythian scripture to Baltar, who after some thought, saw that God had led his hand to that spot on the map. He had wanted the base destroyed to fulfill fate. After Six had convinced him that this incident was no chance coincidence, Baltar said in full confidence, "I am an instrument of God."
