Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which British comedy actors play the lead characters Richard Richard and Eddie Hitler?

Answer: Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson

Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson have worked together on numerous projects, including "Bottom", "The Young Ones", "The Comic Strip" and the "Dangerous Brothers", to name but a few.
2. Where do Richie and Eddie live?

Answer: Hammersmith

Yes, they are the self-styled "Hammersmith Hard Men".
3. What do the boys generally have to drink in the pub?

Answer: Half a pint of Mild

Richie once ordered an Absinthe, but this led to Dick, the landlord, questioning Richie's romantic inclinations.
4. In "Smells", what do Richie and Eddie buy to make themselves irresistible to women?

Answer: Pheromone spray

"This stuff attracts women like you wouldn't believe - Karachi Medical Gazette", reads Richie from the local paper. Confident that women will be unable to resist them, the boys douse themselves in the spray and head to the pub, but sadly the best laid plans can go awry...
5. In "Gas", what is the name of Richie and Eddie's neighbour?

Answer: Mr Rottweiler

Mr Rottweiler was played by the late Brian Glover. As well as being an eminently recognisable British actor, Brian Glover's diverse career included a stint as a professional wrestler in the late 1970s. He supplied the voice for the "Gaffer" in the long-running Tetley tea adverts for many years, and also had roles in "An American Werewolf in London" and "Alien III".
6. In "Contest", on which contestant does Eddie say he has placed a £10 bet that she will win Miss World?

Answer: Miss China

Yes, Miss China, at odds of 1000-1. Eddie later confesses that he did not put the bet on, but just pretended he had in order that Richie would insist they watch Miss World. He actually spent the money on a slap-up meal for himself.
7. In "Apocalypse", who does Richie say wrote the dictionary?

Answer: Jesus

Richie challenges the Grim Reaper (Eddie in disguise) to a game of "I Spy" to save his soul. Richie chooses "scythe", but Eddie insists that "scythe" starts with a "c". When Richie points to it in the disctionary and spells out S-C-Y-T-H-E, Eddie says "that's zither".
8. In " 's Up", what type of business are Richie and Eddie left in charge of for the morning?

Answer: Shop

Of course, it ends in disaster. Richie insults and threatens the customers (one being a doctor played by the late, great John Wells) and then both Richie and Eddie desert their posts to go and sunbathe on the roof. The shop ends up being ransacked and looted.
9. In "Accident", what is the name of the horse that Eddie gives Richie as a tip, for Richie's birthday present?

Answer: Madame Swish

Dave Hedgehog is a friend of Eddie's. Richie breaks both legs in this episode. The episode begins with Richie pretending he has received birthday cards from Abba, "all the lads on the Ark Royal", and the people of the Soviet Union "with grateful thanks to Comrade Richie". They are the same cards he sends to himself EVERY year!
10. In "Digger", which British comedy actress plays Lady Natassia?

Answer: Helen Lederer

When the boys join a video dating agency, Richie pretends that he is an Earl. The agency arranges a date for him and Eddie has to pose as his butler, Jives. Not one of the better episodes, this.
11. In "Culture", what game do the boys play?

Answer: Chess

With the television (apparently) repossessed, the lads decide to have an evening of culture (Richie wears his coat inside out, to make it look like a smoking jacket), cocktails (Pernod, ouzo, marmalade and salt), and chess.
12. In "Parade", which "Red Dwarf" cast member plays the Falklands war veteran?

Answer: Robert Llewellyn

Robert Llewellyn plays Kryten in "Red Dwarf".
13. In "Holy" Eddie drinks all of the brandy that Richie was going to use for the brandy butter. What do they end up using as a substitute?

Answer: Vodka margarine

Spudgun and Dave Hedgehog come round for Christmas dinner. It turns out to be a disaster, of course, as Chef Richie manages to burn the entire meal, and Eddie has to put out the enormous flames on the Christmas pudding with a fire extinguisher.
14. In " 's Out", where do the boys camp out after losing a bet?

Answer: Wimbledon Common

Following a real-life death on Wimbledon Common in 1992, this episode was pulled from the schedules and was not aired on British television for the first time until three years later, when the rest of the series was repeated.
15. In "Hole", which of the following rides do Richie and Eddie NOT go on?

Answer: Roller Coaster

The boys end up stranded at the top of the Ferris Wheel when the fair closes and the whole episode revolves around their attempts to escape before the wheel is blown up in the morning. They mention that they went on the Waltzer (Eddie was sick) and also the Ghost Train (Eddie had a different kind of accident that led to him abandoning his trousers and stealing someone's skirt to wear).
16. In "Terror", as what does Eddie dress when he and Richie go "Trick or Treating".

Answer: A banana

The shop had no pumpkin outfits left. Watch out in this episode for the hideous sight of Richie wearing transparent tights over his underpants, and also for Richie's "Sprouts Mexicaine".
17. In "Break", the boys get set for their forthcoming holiday to "sunny Doncaster". Which of the following do they NOT suggest taking with them as an alternative to sun tan lotion?

Answer: Rain ointment

Sadly for Richie, all does not go well. Eddie goes to the pub and spends all of their holiday money on booze, and Richie ends up having a fridge dropped on his head.
18. In "Dough", what has Eddie been doing in his bedroom for a week?

Answer: Forging Money

Eddie's plans for a life of riches fail, however, due to the fact that his forged money includes such items as £27 notes, and also because he has dispensed with the image of the Queen on some notes, in favour of celebrities in questionable situations.
19. In "Finger", of whom does Richie supposedly do a "brilliant" impersonation?

Answer: Leonard Rossiter

In fact it is so bad that all the diners in the hotel restaurant, where he does the impression, leave. The boys are staying at the Marveloso Splendido Hotel, Wolverhampton, after having stolen Cannonball Taffy O'Jones's honeymoon tickets. Eddie has to dress as a woman and be known as "Edwina" for the ruse to work.
20. In "Carnival", the boys discover a videotape of someone in a compromising situation, but who?

Answer: The Prime Minister

They try to blackmail the Prime Minister (when this episode was originally aired, John Major was the Prime Minister), but end up with their flat surrounded by special forces. They end up being gunned down in a hail of bullets (akin to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid).

Even though this was the last ever episode, it was not the end. Richie and Eddie live on in special video releases and nationwide theatre tours of "Bottom Live!".
