Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'The Freshman': This marks the introduction of both Riley and Professor Walsh. What did Professor Walsh give as the name for her class?

Answer: Psych 105: Intro to Psychology

Professor Walsh becomes an important character later in the season as the leader of The Initiative.
2. 'Living Conditions': We see someone who will be extremely important in later episodes for the first time in this episode. Who is it?

Answer: Veruca

Though she has no lines, Paige Moss makes her first appearance in this episode. In episodes that followed, she played Veruca, another werewolf that Oz eventually kills before he leaves Willow and Sunnydale.
3. 'The Harsh Light of Day': We see both Spike and Harmony for the first time since last season in this episode. Dru has dumped Spike again since 'Lover's Walk.' What kind of demon did she dump him for this time?

Answer: fungus demon

Last time we saw him in season 3's 'Lover's Walk,' Spike had been dumped by Dru for a chaos demon. The fear demon appears in the next episode, and the fyarl demon is what Giles turns into later in the season.
4. 'Fear, Itself': What word is missing?: Giles: 'Xander, don't taunt the fear demon.' Xander: 'Why, can it hurt me?' Giles: 'No, it's just _______.'

Answer: tacky

A great end to a pretty scary episode. The fear demon rises, but not very far: it's only a few inches tall. An even better exchange comes as the show closes and Giles is looking at the book with the small illustration of the demon: Giles: 'I should have translated the Gaelic inscription under the illustration of Gachnar!' Buffy: 'What's it say?' Giles: 'Actual size.'
5. 'Beer Bad': Which character has the line that gave the episode its title?

Answer: Xander

Buffy: 'No. Like beer. Beer...good.' Xander: 'No, beer bad. Bad, bad beer. What the hell am I saying?' Some say it's a terrible episode; I happen to like it. Buffy as 'caveslayer' is priceless.
6. 'Wild at Heart': Oz leaves in one of the saddest episodes of 'Buffy,' but how closely did you watch? How many things did Willow bring with her (and then drop) when she went to Oz's cage in the morning and saw him with Veruca?

Answer: 2

Willow goes to see Oz in the morning carrying a thermos and paper bag, which she drops upon seeing him and Veruca lying naked together. The scene that follows is heartbreaking.
7. 'The Initiative': What word do Buffy and Riley both use in describing each other?

Answer: peculiar

Riley calls Buffy peculiar many times throughout the episode, and at the end, Buffy describes him in the same way. Aww!
8. 'Pangs': We all know that Angel comes back to Sunnydale, but do you remember who let that little bit of information slip to Buffy?

Answer: Xander

Angel manages to hide from Buffy during the episode, but in the final seconds, Xander lets it slip that he was in town.
9. 'Something Blue': What does NOT happen in this episode as a result of Willow's spell?

Answer: Anya cuts her hair

Though Anya has a new hairstyle in this episode, Willow's spell didn't cause her to cut it. The other events make for a great episode, especially the Spike and Buffy 'romance'
10. 'Hush': What words are missing from the little girl's rhyme? Can't even shout, can't even cry; The Gentlemen are coming by; Looking in windows, knocking on doors; They need to ____ _____ and they might ____ yours; Can't call to mom, can't say a word; You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard..."

Answer: take seven take

Buffy hears this rhyme in her dream in the episode's opening. With no dialogue through most of the episode, this was one of the scariest 'Buffy' episodes.
11. 'Doomed': What words are missing from this great line of Buffy's? 'The last time we had __ __________? I died.'

Answer: an earthquake

There is a small earthquake near the beginning of the episode, and Buffy is frightened, with good reason. In this great exchange, Giles says it best: Giles: 'It's the end of the world.' Buffy, Xander, and Willow (simultaneously): 'Again?'
12. 'A New Man': Ethan Rayne (seen in 'Band Candy' and 'Halloween') comes back to turn Giles into a fyarl demon. What does he say (near the end of the episode) 'gets him every time?'

Answer: the 'stay and gloat'

Seeing Giles as a demon and forced to turn to Spike (the only one who speaks Fyarl) for help is great, but its even funnier to watch Riley (big, tall, strong military guy) get pummeled and kicked clear across the room by Buffy (little, tiny girl). Hee hee!
13. 'The I In Team': Complete this Buffy quote (sorry there's a lot of these, but I love quotes!): 'Oh, you mean the camo and stuff? I thought about it, but on me it's going to look all ________. Don't worry; I've patrolled in this halter many times.'

Answer: Private Benjamin

The scene this quote comes from is hysterical: Professor Walsh is trying to brief her troops, and Buffy keeps interrupting with questions. If you haven't seen this episode, it's worth a watch, and if you have, go watch it again!
14. 'Goodbye Iowa': Buffy gives a big 'rally the troops' speech in this episode, then has this line. What words are missing from it? 'That probably would have sounded more commanding if I wasn't wearing my _____ _____ pajamas.'

Answer: yummy sushi

This is the morning after the entire Scooby gang has spent the night in Xander's basement.
15. 'This Year's Girl': Ok, here's a tough one (not being sarcastic). If you've watched the DVD with commentary for this episode, you might get this. What was another possible title for this episode?

Answer: 'Rise and Shine'

Writer Douglas Petrie said in his commentary on this episode that they were thinking of using 'Rise and Shine' as a title. He said that it sounds like something the Mayor would've said.
16. 'Who Are You': What word does Buffy (in Faith's body) ask Giles the meaning of?

Answer: stevedore

Buffy (in Faith's body) is trying to convince Giles that she is actually Buffy, and not Faith: Buffy: 'Oh, oh! When I had psychic power, I heard my mom think that you were like a stevedore during sex. Do you want me to continue?' Giles: 'Actually, I beg you to stop.' Buffy: 'What's a stevedore?'
17. 'Superstar': What color was Jonathan's shirt when Buffy came over to talk to him after the spell had been broken?

Answer: yellow

A weird episode, 'Superstar' featured former high school nerd Jonathan as the biggest celebrity around. Some of the episodes funnier moments: Giles actually owning a Jonathan swimsuit calendar, Riley feeling 'way too tall,' you get the picture. Worth seeing again.
18. 'Where the Wild Things Are': An 'interesting' episode, but can you remember during what years the Lowell House was a home for disturbed children?

Answer: 1949-1960

This was mentioned in an article Willow was reading. The article was about the woman who ran the house, Genevive Holt, so the gang (minus Buffy and Riley, who were a little preoccupied) went to see her to try and get more information.
19. 'New Moon Rising': When Riley escaped the Initiative, what word did he use to describe himself that Colonel MacNamara had used to describe Buffy & her friends?

Answer: anarchist

This episode, when Oz returns (and then leaves again, this time for good) had a lot of great moments.
20. 'The Yoko Factor': What words are missing word in Riley's quote: 'Seriously? That's a good day? Well there you go; even when he's good he's all Mr. _______ ____, king of pain, and girls really like that.'

Answer: billowy coat

While Spike is scheming to separate Buffy from her friends as part of Adam's master plan, Angel comes back from L.A. to apologize. He gets sidetracked, though, and gets into a fistfight with Riley (talk about eye candy).
21. 'Primeval': Which of these have all the correct match-ups for the enjoining spell?

Answer: Willow --> spirit, Xander --> heart, Giles --> mind, Buffy --> hand

These characteristics help the Scoobies with the enjoining spell they used in order to destroy Adam. This had some awesome special effects, reminiscent of 'The Matrix.' Also, a nice bit of continuity - Buffy pulls out Adam's power source, which Jonathan mentioned in 'Superstar.'
22. 'Restless': Which of these old friends does not appear?

Answer: The Mayor

A great end to an amazing season.
23. Now, for some general questions. How many changes, not including those in 'Superstar,' were made to the opening credits throughout the course of season four, starting with 'The Freshman' [not changes from the end of season 3 to the beginning of season 4]? (ie: How many cast members were removed or added?)

Answer: 3

Seth Green (Oz) was removed after 'Wild at Heart,' James Marsters was added as of 'The Initiative,' and Marc Blucas (Riley) was added as of 'Doomed.'
24. Which of these first knew about Willow and Tara's relationship?

Answer: Faith

Buffy was the first of the 'core' Scoobies to know (in 'New Moon Rising'), but in 'Who Are You?,' Faith (in Buffy's body) makes comments ('So Willow's not driving stick anymore? Who would've thought?') that insinuate that she knows about their relationship.
25. After Spike has the chip implanted in his head by the Initiative, who is the first person he tries (unsuccessfully) to bite?

Answer: Willow

This happens in the episode 'The Initiative.' A very scary scene, unless you already know the outcome.
