1. How many episodes did Sarah Michelle Gellar actually (physically) go to the "Angel" set to guest star in?

Answer: 2

She appeared twice in season 1: "I Will Remember You" and "Sanctuary". Archive footage was used for flashbacks like in "City Of..." and "Just Rewards". Body doubles were even used to portray Buffy in season 5's "Soul Purpose" and "The Girl in Question".
There is also a voice recording of her in "City Of..." when Angel calls her, but doesn't say anything.

Answer: Doyle had a vision

At the end of "The Bachelor Party", Doyle has a vision of Buffy being in danger. In the "Buffy" episode "Pangs" Angel tries to help her while staying hidden from her. Xander ultimately lets it slip that he was there.

The Oracles allowed Angel to remember, but not Buffy. She was so heartbroken to find out that the day would rewind and she wouldn't remember. And Angel is so concerned about the Shanshu prophecy in season 5, when all he needs is Mohra demon blood. I am sure Wolfram and Hart could have found him some that he could have hidden in case he lived through he final battle since he signed away his chance to Shanshu. I guess we will never know.

Willow is in the last scene of "There's No Place like Plrtz Glrb" and without saying a word, Angel knows.

There is also a plot error here. At the end of season 2 when Willow comes to inform Angel that Buffy died and then he leaves to go to Tibet to deal with his loss, Fred's present. But in "Carpe Noctem" she has no clue who Buffy is. Also, must point out that Tibet is the same place Oz went to in order to deal with his troubles.

So Angel takes the amulet to Buffy in Sunnydale and she gives it to Spike, because she wants Angel to act as a second unit in case she fails.
