Their main enemy was Gargamel and his cat Azrael. They used the word "smurf" in many ways, including swearing (though I didn't get that as a child) such as "Smurf it!"

Grumpy was the blue bear with the raincloud, and as his name suggests, he was almost always in a bad mood. The sunshine was on a yellow bear named Funshine, who was the optimistic one.

The rainbow was on a pink bear named Cheer Bear, who was always happy. The comet was on a light blue bear named Wish Bear, who liked to make everyone's wish come true. They lived in clouds and had to watch the care-o-meter to make sure everything on Earth was going okay.

Their job was to make sure everyone cared about everyone else.
